The Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) is the place where the legend of the world’s fourth-largest distribution hub will be born.
The IFEZ promises to provide the industrial infrastructure and legal institutions that will enable people and companies from all over the world to do business freely within the area.
The IFEZ promotes a business environment in which people from all over the world can live freely, and companies can carry out their business activities more conveniently.
A free economic zone is being established for this purpose. With Yeongjongdo (Island), the site for the Incheon International Airport; the northwestern reclaimed land, the site for an international financial district; and Songdo New City, a Mecca for international business and high-tech industry, forming the triangular core of the free economic zone, Incheon has laid the administrative and institutional foundation for a gateway to Northeast Asia. This will enable South Korea to become one of top four distribution hubs in the world, joining Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Netherlands. A distinctive set of institutions will be applied to the IFEZ in order to create an environment that is friendly to foreign businesses. The IFEZ will be a self-sufficient district that is fully equipped with facilities with a wide range of functions, including manufacturing plants, an international airport, a harbor, an international distribution center, a global business complex, educational institutions and residential districts. In addition, the IFEZ will provide diverse administrative services to ensure a friendly living environment for foreign residents, including English translation, aid with civil petitions, improved customs and immigration services for foreign workers, and the introduction of foreign educational institutions, hospitals and pharmacies.
To provide these development services more swiftly and efficiently, the City of Incheon created the Free Economic Zone Administrative Agency, an independent administrative body that supervises the IFEZ and provides businesses with one-stop access to all of these services.
