Ongin black goats, also known as ‘Baengnyeong Wormwood-Ginseng Black Goat,’ are goats that are bred on Baengnyeong Island, and are raised on a special nutritious diet. The black goats, which are raised on the livestock farm of Baengyeong Island's agricultural cooperative, overlooking Cape Jangsangot of Hwanghae-do, are purchased from local growers at a young age (kids aged about 100 days).
They are put on a special dietary regimen for 40 days, and are fed with locally-grown wormwood leaves and ginseng. Goats are slaughtered at the peak of their nutritional potential, and the meat is used to prepare a medicinal nectar by adding 22 herbs, including milk-vetch roots, Paeoniae radix alba and dried rhizome of Cnidium officinale makino. The processing is done in accordance with a rigorous control standard. The nectar undergoes two separate processes to remove any residual fat.
