According to old legend, white sweet potatoes were grown in Korea only in some parts of the islands of Hwanghae and Baengnyeong. These sweet potatoes are sometimes called ‘the fruit of the earth’ in reference to their sweetness, and also because of how this native variety is so strongly affected by the characteristics of regional soil conditions.
Characteristics
Ongjin white sweet potatoes are an all-natural product, grown in Baengnyeong Island's rich soil, benefiting from the cool sea breeze and pure air of the island.
For optimum taste, these sweet potatoes are sun-dried for 4-5 days after harvest before being taken to market.
This high-fiber root vegetable has been long known as being beneficial in the treatment of conditions such as constipation, and for helping to eliminate excess cholesterol. Beta-carotene, abundantly present in sweet potatoes, makes them especially recommendable for smokers.
