Island Tour

Baengnyeongdo (Island)

Baengnyeongdo (Island)

Standing alone in the far north, Baengnyeongdo boasts beaches with crystal clear water, fine sand, and colorful pebbles.
Sagot Beach, 2.5km in length, 300m in width, is one of only two diatomite beaches in the world, with the other one in Naples, Italy. It is a natural airfield, and can be used for landing or take-off during emergencies. 2 km of the Kongdol sea-shore is covered with small, colorful bean-sized pebbles, and taking a hot sand bath here is widely known to be helpful for chronic dermatitis.

Daecheongdo (Island)

Daecheongdo (Island)

Okjukpo Beach, located in Ongjin-gun, is renowned for its fine sand. 800m from the coast, you can find an exotic silver sand hill that was formed over many years from sand carried by the wind. The sand hill forms mountains and valleys, with wave-shaped wrinkles and subtle colors.
Nongyeo Beach is carpeted by fine, hard sand. During a low tide, sand pools form to create a beautiful scene. The sand is so fine and hard that it is difficult to leave even a footprint.

Yeonpyeongdo (Island)

Yeonpyeongdo (Island)

Left untouched by civilization, the natural beauty of Yeonpyeongdo’s mountains, cliffs, and sea has been well preserved. Of these, the finest sight is Papillon Cliff. The forest path to the cliff and the view from the top of the cliff remind visitors of the movie, Papillon, and of the scene where Steve McQueen jumps to his freedom, crying ‘Free as the wind!’

Deokjeokdo (Island)

Deokjeokdo (Island)

The main beach of Deokjeokdo is Seopori Beach. This beach is a low sloping, enor-mous, 990,000 m²-white sand beach, which lies picturesquely against a thick,
200-year-old forest of seashore pines and sweetbriers.
Designated as a national tourist site, this beach is equipped with a variety of conve-nient facilities, including motels, tent bungalows, a football field, tennis courts, karaoke clubs, and bicycle rental shops. Sitting on the rocks along the shore, you can become a sport fisher.

Jawoldo (Island)

Jawoldo (Island)

Shaped liked a half-moon, Janggol Beach of Jawoldo has a 1km long fine sand beach and old acacia trees surrounding it like a screen. Watching the sea while enveloped in the scent of acacia gives one an enlightened feeling. Close to the beach is the small Janggol Park. It has a wide variety of flowers in every season, including sweetbrier, and is good for camping.
100m long and 40m wide, Keunmal Beach is a cute little beach filled with fine gold sand that stretches along a winding shoreline. During low tide, you can catch clams, small octopi, and trumpet shells, making it a great place to learn about nature.

Sindo, Sido, Modo and Jangbongdo (Islands)

Sindo, Sido, Modo and Jangbongdo (Islands)

Sindo, Sido, and Modo are connected by Yeondogyo (Bridge). At these small islands of Bukdo-myeon, you can enjoy a wide variety of fun activities: swimming and fishing during high tides; or mud packing and digging up clams during low tides. On Sido, you’ll find Sugi Beach, a 400m-long stretch of fine sandy beach with a large pine tree forest. Sugi Beach is a small beach that is bent like a bow, and the water here is as serene as a lake.

Yeongheungdo (Island)

Yeongheungdo (Island)

The bridge allows you to drive from Yeongheungdo to Seonjaedo (Island). Simnipo Beach on Yeongheungdo is outlined by 1km long stretch of coarse sand and small pebbles. Behind the beach lies the only colony of small white birches in Korea. The forest, which has more than 300 trees that are 150 years of age or older, exhales cool air like a natural air conditioner.
The 1.5km-long Janggyeongni Beach has a forest of pine trees that makes an excellent camping site. Around the forest are a number of rental cottages and other lodgings available for vacationing families. Janggyeongni Beach is famous for its sunsets. In summer, the sun sets right in the middle of the beach.

Yongyudo (Island)

Yongyudo (Island)

Yongyudo has so many beaches, including Masiran Beach, Yongyu Beach, Seon-nyeobawi Beach, Eulwangni Beach, and Wangsan Beach, that the whole island feels like a giant beach. Eulwangni Beach, the most popular beach on the West Coast, is a particularly fine place to enjoy the sunset. Masiran Beach has endless sandbanks, and a thick pine forest that surrounds it like a screen. With the recent removal of the unsightly food carts, it is predicted that this beach will be one of the best resorts of the season.
