Thegovernment is set to abolish its criteria on Obligatory Providers for“Livelihood Benefits” under the basic living security system in January 2021.
○ What is the “ObligatoryProvider” criteria under the basic living security system?
- Eligibility criteria forthe basic living security system: When a family applies for support under thebasic living security system, the government considers the income level andassets of each member of said family. This is referred to as the “ObligatoryProvider” criteria.
○Eligible households
- A household with a“recognized income” amount that is at or below the eligibility criteria foreach benefits criteria, provided that it meets Obligatory Providercriteria
○ Selection criteria for2021 (recognized incomeamount)
- 1 person: KRW 548, 349
- 2 persons: KRW 926,424
- 3 persons: KRW 1,195,185
- 4 persons: KRW 1,462,887
- 5 persons: KRW 1,727,212
- 6 persons: KRW 1,988,581
※ Recognized income amount:Assessed income amount + income converted from properties of the household
○ Entities subject to the abolished criteria for ObligatoryProviders
- If the recipient (applicant) household includes the elderly or single parent
* However, if thehouseholds includes an Obligatory Provider that is a high-income earner(minimum KRW 100 million/year) or a high-asset holder (minimum KRW 900million), the incumbent criteria shall apply
