Incheon City Partners with Ongjin-gun and JEI University to Pursue UNESCO Global Geopark Status for Baengnyeong and Daecheong Geopark

Incheon Metropolitan City has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ongjin-gun and JEI University to collaborate on designating Baengnyeong and Daecheong Geopark as UNESCO Global Geoparks.

Baengnyeongdo, Daecheongdo, and Socheongdo, located at the far northwest tip of South Korea, are geological treasures that hold the secrets of the Earth’s formation. These islands vividly record continental-scale volcanic activity that occurred 1 billion years ago, providing key insights into the formation of Northeast Asia.

Incheon City is working to designate the Baengnyeong and Daecheong Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark, aiming to preserve this valuable geological heritage for future generations and transform the area into a sustainable global tourist destination.
