Incheon Waterworks Headquarters to Build Safe Water Supply System
The Incheon Waterworks Austhority will actively push forward measures to build a safe water supply system and prevent disasters and safety accidents. The authority plans to strengthen internal safety inspections under its disaster safety management plan and improve facilities through repairs and reinforcement, while inspecting and improving safety management at water intake and treatment facilities, as well as construction sites. In connection with improving drinking water environments that citizens can directly experience, it will also provide visiting water quality safety services, taking responsibility for water quality all the way to household taps.
Incheon Institute Calls for Shift Toward ‘Experience Economy’ in Arts Sector
The Incheon Institute has proposed that the city’s performing arts sector should shift from viewing-based consumption to experience-centered models for the city to grow as a cultural hub. The institute released a research report titled “Measures to Revitalize Incheon’s Performing Arts Industry Based on the Experience Economy.” In the report, the researchers noted that cultural consumption is shifting toward seeking differentiated experiences rather than simple viewing, and said this trend should be reflected across both content development and policy in the performing arts sector.
Seo-gu Adopts Big Data–Based Malaria Risk Analysis
Incheon’s Seo-gu has announced it is operating a preemptive disease control system using big data–based malaria risk analysis to predict outbreaks in advance and conduct efficient pest control. The district has been running evidence-based control measures using the Daily Mosquito Monitoring System, responding when mosquito levels exceed set thresholds. As a result, the number of malaria cases in Seo-gu fell from 43 in 2024 to 25 in 2025, a drop of about 42%, exceeding the nationwide decrease rate of 14%.
Incheon’s Rural School Programs Gain Popularity
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education has announced that participation in its rural study-abroad program, or “Mallanggaetti School,” has sharply increased. This year, 83 students are taking part in the residential program, more than double last year’s 39. Mallanggaetti School allows elementary and middle school students to transfer to rural and fishing village schools in Incheon, where they complete at least six months of regular coursework while learning through nature and community life. After launching at 15 schools last year, the residential program will expand to 20 schools, including 16 in Ganghwa-gun and four in Ongjin-gun this year.
Immigration History Museum to Screen Films Starring Kim Yeom
The Museum of Korea Emigration History, a branch of the Incheon Metropolitan City Museum, will hold a screening of representative films by actor Kim Yeom, in connection with the special exhibition, “Joseon Filmmakers in the Golden Age of Shanghai Cinema.” Kim was known as the “emperor of Chinese cinema,”and rose to fame despite being of Joseon origin. The screening will feature three of his major works. The event will be held at the museum’s auditorium located on the basement level at 2 p.m. on January 21st. It will be open to the general public, free of charge.
Incheon to Launch Integrated Care System by March 2026
Incheon Metropolitan City is preparing for the full launch of an integrated care system by March 2026. The integrated care system allows citizens in need of care, including seniors and people with disabilities, to receive medical, nursing, and care services in an integrated manner while remaining in their communities, with districts and counties playing a central role in implementation. As such, the city plans to expand dedicated organizations and staffing and establish cooperation systems with the city’s districts and counties. From the end of January, the city will hold regular progress review meetings with districts and counties, closely checking the expansion of home-based medical services and management of integrated support performance, and plans to complete all preparations before the March launch.
