Spending limit set for Incheon mayor and education superintendent races


The Incheon Election Commission has set spending limits for each candidate in the June 3 local elections this year. The spending limit for both the Incheon mayoral race and the superintendent of education race has been set at 1.523 billion won each. The amount is an increase of 75 million won compared to the last local election. The average spending limit for district heads and county heads is 195 million won. Spending limits are calculated based on population, the number of towns and neighborhoods, consumer price changes, and increases in allowances for election staff.





Bupyeong Pungmul Festival selected as 2026-2027 Cultural Tourism Festival 


The Bupyeong Pungmul Festival has been selected as a “Cultural Tourism Festival for 2026–2027” by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Incheon’s Bupyeong-gu said the festival, marking its 30th edition this year, has been selected for two consecutive terms following its selection for 2024–2025. With the designation, the festival will receive government financial support for two years, including operating expenses.





Jung-gu to provide moving cost support for young renters without homes


Incheon’s Jung-gu will promote a moving cost support program to help stabilize housing costs for young people. The program supports up to 400,000 won for moving-related costs, including brokerage fees, vehicle rental, transport, and packing. Eligible applicants are heads of households aged 19 to 39 who do not own homes and who moved into Jung-gu or moved within Jung-gu this year.





Incheon opens distributed energy support center


An opening ceremony for the Incheon Distributed Energy Support Center has been held at Incheon Technopark. The center is a regional organization established based on the “Special Act on the Promotion of Distributed Energy.” It will handle tasks such as developing distributed energy policies and support systems; designating and operating specialized distributed energy regions; fostering new distributed energy industries and providing company support; and providing education and public outreach for citizens and experts. Distributed energy refers to energy produced and consumed near where it is used. It is seen as an alternative to overcome the limits of centralized power systems.




Incheon selects 1,000 model taxpayers


Incheon Metropolitan City has selected 1,000 model taxpayers for 2026 to promote a sound tax-paying culture. Model taxpayers are individuals living in Incheon or organizations and corporations with business sites in the city who have had no local tax arrears for ten years. They must also have paid at least two local tax bills in full and on time every year, regardless of the amount. Candidates are selected through random computerized draws using the local tax information system and finalized after review by the local tax deliberation committee. Selected taxpayers will receive notification letters and certificates by mail.





Inha University Intersection on Incheon-daero to open on Jan. 31


The Inha University intersection on the former Gyeongin Expressway section, now called Incheon-daero, will open on the 31st. The section is currently undergoing road conversion and improvement construction. The intersection was built near the Inha University back gate intersection, about 1.6 kilometers from Inha University Hospital intersection. After opening, one left-turn lane will allow vehicles to exit from Incheon-daero to Inha-ro. Two lanes will allow entry from Inha-ro to Incheon-daero. Traffic signals will be installed, while passage of trucks over 2.5 tons, buses with 16 or more seats, and construction equipment will be restricted.





106 companies express interest in Ganghwa seeking FEZ designation


A total of 106 domestic and overseas companies have expressed interest in investing in the southern part of Ganghwa Island. The area is currently undergoing procedures to become designated as a free economic zone. The Incheon Free Economic Zone said 106 companies submitted letters of intent starting in November 2024. The companies include well-known domestic biotech firms and major overseas IT companies.
