Dong-gu asks to maintain full funding for disability welfare centers


Ahead of Incheon’s administrative restructuring in July, Dong-gu has requested to maintain full city funding for local disability welfare centers. Dong-gu made the request during Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok’s New Year visit to the district. Dong-gu and inland areas of Jung-gu will merge to form Jemulpo-gu. Dong-gu asked that funding remain the same even if the number of welfare centers increases after the merger. When Jemulpo-gu is newly launched, two centers currently in Dong-gu will fall under its jurisdiction. Dong-gu also requested support for the removal of Songnim Overpass, and the construction of a district-run nursing home. It also asked for support to attract a planned Incheon Subway Line 3 station, tentatively named Songnim Ogeori Station. 





Police step up crime prevention at gold shops in Incheon amid rising gold prices


Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency will conduct special crime prevention activities at gold trading businesses ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays. The campaign covers 432 jewelry and precious metal shops in Incheon, including 46 gold trading centers. Police asked shop owners to report to 112 right away if they see suspicious behavior such as rushed purchases of large amounts of gold bars with large sums of cash, or if buyers suspiciously appear to be acting under someone else’s instructions. 





Incheon shantytown residents donate savings to help others in need


Residents of Incheon’s most impoverished neighborhoods have continued warm-hearted donations for 18 years to help neighbors in even more difficult situations. A community rehabilitation center called “Incheon House of Tomorrow,” said 2.92 million won in donations collected from these residents was delivered to the Community Chest of Korea. The donations were collected from residents and users of free meal centers and homeless shelters who had saved on daily expenses and collected coins. Some also sold waste paper and scrap metal to raise money. The tradition of giving by impoverished residents has continued for 18 years, with this year recording the highest amount ever. Incheon Fire Department to deploy drones at all stations 


Incheon Fire Department has greatly expanded advanced equipment to prepare for large-scale and complex disasters. The department will introduce a medium-capacity water discharge system at a cost of 2.3 billion won. The system includes power packs, hoses, and drainage modules allowing rapid water supply and drainage during floods and large fires. The fire department also plans to introduce 12 small firefighting drones in the first half of this year, enabling them to be used at all fire stations in the Incheon area.





Incheon to review surface road plans under Gyeongin Expressway undergrounding project 


Incheon Metropolitan City will carry out a study to review surface road plans under the Gyeongin Expressway undergrounding project. The project, led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, will build a four-lane underground expressway over a 15.3-kilometer section from Cheongna 1-dong in Seo-gu, Incheon, to Sinwol-dong in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. The total project cost is 1.378 trillion won. Once the underground expressway is built, the current ground-level expressway will be converted into general roads with intersections. The study will detail road and green space plans, including intersection placement and landscape planning, for areas where noise barriers and retaining walls will be removed. The city’s views will be actively reflected in the project.
