Incheon to build ‘Incheon-Style Smart City’


Incheon Metropolitan City has unveiled a blueprint to build an “Incheon-style smart city” by 2029. The city said it will promote 41 implementation projects across four sectors, based on a smart city plan recently approved by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Through the plan, Incheon aims to become a smart city that achieves balanced development, a megacity for everyone, a global smart city, and a data-driven innovation city.





Incheon ranks 1st in 2025 Traffic Culture Index for 4th straight year


Incheon Metropolitan City has ranked first among eight metropolitan cities in the 2025 Traffic Culture Index evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and implemented by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. The Traffic Culture Index quantifies driving behavior, pedestrian behavior, and traffic safety conditions on a 100-point scale. Regions are evaluated across four categories: cities with populations of more than or less than 300,000, autonomous districts, and counties. The result is seen as the outcome of Incheon’s continued efforts to improve traffic culture, combined with active participation from citizens.





Incheon to support SMEs hiring retirement-age workers 


Incheon Metropolitan City will provide incentives of up to 3.6 million won per worker per year to manufacturing SMEs that extend employment or hire new workers who have reached mandatory retirement age. Eligible companies are small and medium-sized manufacturing firms that hire Incheon residents aged 60 or older or extend their employment for at least two years. Support is limited to up to 10 workers per company, within 10 percent of the number of employees enrolled in employment insurance. Workplaces with fewer than 10 employees may receive support for up to two workers.





Seo-gu to conduct additional survey on ‘Seohae-gu’ name change


Incheon’s Seo-gu will conduct an additional public opinion survey regarding the proposed new district name, “Seohae-gu.” The survey comes amid Incheon’s upcoming administrative system reform. The survey will target 2,000 residents aged 18 or older living in Seo-gu areas that will be separated from Geomdan-gu under the administrative restructuring scheduled for July. The survey will run through February 20th. Seo-gu plans to collect opinions on awareness, agreement, and expected effects of the new name through a mobile survey conducted by a professional research agency.





Incheon recruits trainees for 2026 Farming and Rural Settlement Program


The Incheon Agricultural Technology Center will begin recruiting participants for the 17th comprehensive training program for farming and rural settlement. Recruitment will begin on the 10th. The program is designed for citizens preparing to return to farming or live in rural areas, to support successful settlement through systematic basic farming education and agricultural information. Classes will be held every Monday or Wednesday from March 9 to June 29. Reflecting recent trends, the program includes information on farming policies, basic agricultural skills, smart-farm cultivation practice, business marketing, startup strategies, and on-site farm training. The course consists of 20 sessions totaling 100 hours.





Incheon Conducts Safety Inspections of Fishing & Recreational Vessels


Incheon Metropolitan City will conduct joint safety inspections of fishing vessels and recreational fishing boats through February 28. The inspections aim to prevent maritime accidents caused by severe winter weather and to prepare for the upcoming spring fishing and travel season. Participating agencies include Incheon Metropolitan City, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, district and county governments, the Incheon Coast Guard, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority, and the Incheon Fishing Vessel Safety Operation Center. Among 1,473 vessels registered in Incheon, inspections will focus on high-risk vessels, including aging vessels under 10 tons, vessels with accident histories, and vessels operated daily with two or fewer crew members.
