Incheon Metropolitan City will begin full implementation of the “2026 Coastal Water Safety Facilities & Equipment Strengthening Support Project” to ensure the safety of residents and tourists enjoying coastal areas. The project targets coastal regions including Ganghwa-gun, Ongjin-gun, and Jung-gu. It focuses on introducing effective safety equipment by comprehensively reflecting local geographical characteristics and safety demands. The total project cost will be shared equally by Incheon Metropolitan City and each district and county, strengthening administrative and financial cooperation while improving efficiency and synergy in project implementation.
Incheon Exceeds ‘30 Million Trees’ Planting Goal By 122%
Incheon Metropolitan City has promoted the “New Green City: Planting 30 Million Trees” project since 2016 to create a more pleasant and livable green city. At the time, Incheon’s population stood at approximately 2.98 million, nearing three million. Under the goal of planting one tree per Incheon resident over ten years, the city established a plan to plant 30 million trees. As of the end of 2024, the project had already achieved its original target. By 2025, a total of 36.69 million trees were planted, exceeding the original goal by 122%. The project is credited not only with environmental benefits such as mitigating the urban heat island effect, reducing fine dust, and enhancing biodiversity, but also with social benefits including improved access to green spaces and creating a more pleasant urban landscape.
Inha Univ. & Incheon Education Office Build Life-Stage-Based AI Education Model
Inha University and the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education will work together to develop an Incheon-style artificial intelligence education model to nurture future talent. Inha University said it plans to establish and operate a life-stage-based AI education system covering elementary, middle, and high school levels in cooperation with the city’s education office. The two institutions aim to foster 300,000 AI creative and convergence-type talents through step-by-step, customized education policies. They also plan to strengthen teachers’ AI-convergence education capabilities and operate educational programs for parents and citizens.
Incheon Appoints Six New Instructors For Child Abuse Prevention Education
Incheon Metropolitan City has held an appointment ceremony for six newly selected instructors specializing in child abuse prevention education and conducted capacity-building training to strengthen their expertise. The city awarded appointment certificates to the new instructors and invited field experts from child protection agencies to deliver training on the role of child abuse prevention instructors and basic education guidelines. Incheon has operated an instructor pool system for child abuse prevention education since 2016. The pool initially began with 25 instructors and has steadily expanded. This year, six new instructors with extensive experience in child welfare, parent education, and related fields were newly selected.
Incheon City Chorale Opens 2026 Season With Tango Ahead Of ACDA Invitation
The Incheon City Chorale will open its 2026 season with a regular concert spotlighting the allure of tango. The choir has gained international recognition for its artistry after being officially invited to perform at the 2027 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). Its 195th regular concert, titled “Scent of Tango,” will be held on February 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Theater of the Incheon Arts Center. With the winter season nearing an end, the rich melodies and passionate rhythms unique to tango will blend with choral harmonies to deepen the seasonal atmosphere. Incheon Launches ‘1883 Gaehang Salon’ Program For Visitors
Incheon Metropolitan City announced it will fully launch the 2026 “1883 Gaehang Salon” citizen participation program to transform the Open Port area into a cultural space for visitors to stay longer and return to. The “1883 Gaehang Salon” serves as a cultural exchange hub symbolizing the year Incheon opened its port in 1883. In 2026, programs will focus on retro-themed experiences, local Open Port experiences, and Open Port branding activities. Based on this initiative, the city plans to introduce new hands-on programs that allow citizens to directly experience the history and atmosphere of the Open Port area.
