Incheon Education Office launches tailored support for probationary students
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education will implement a teacher-student mentoring program for students on probation through December. The initiative is designed to support students’ stable adjustment and emotional well-being within the school environment. It provides close, individualized support to help students in crisis grow into healthy citizens within the school environment. Mentor teachers will conduct counseling and guidance sessions with assigned students at least once a month.
Incheon to supply 300 additional “1,000-won-per-day” housing units
Incheon Metropolitan City will provide an additional 300 housing units with daily rent set at 1,000 won for newlyweds and families with newborns. Eligible applicants include non-homeowning households such as couples married for less than seven years, soon-to-be newlyweds, and families with newborns. Applicants must meet income criteria of 130 percent or less of the previous year’s average monthly income for urban worker households, or 200 percent in the case of dual-income households. Applications will be accepted from May 11 to 15 at the central hall of Incheon City Hall.
Ferry fuel surcharges to hit highest level in May amid Middle East tensions
Fuel surcharges for Incheon passenger ferries will be applied at the “highest level” this coming May due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. This effectively translates into higher ferry fares. While fares for Incheon residents will remain at 1,500 won under the city’s “i-Sea Pass” policy, non-residents and local governments are expected to face increased costs. Fares to Baengnyeongdo and other islands will also rise as a result of the surcharge hike.
Incheon to hold 10-minute lights-off event for Earth Day
Incheon Metropolitan City will participate in a nationwide lights-off campaign on April 22 to mark the 56th Earth Day. From 8 p.m. to 8:10 p.m., lights at public buildings, major facilities, and landscape lighting installations will be turned off simultaneously. The 14th Diaspora Film Festival, exploring the value of coexistence in an era marked by war and division, will be held in Incheon from May 22 to 26. A record 1,012 films from 73 countries have been submitted, highlighting growing international interest. The festival is the only diaspora-themed film event in Asia and has expanded its global resonance each year. This year’s edition focuses on coexistence, shedding light on lives shaped by conflict, displacement, and forced migration.
Incheon Office of Education to host children’s fun festival
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education will host a large-scale festival for children and families. The “3rd Incheon Children’s Fun Festival” will be held on May 2 at Gyeongin National University of Education’s Incheon campus, bringing together preschoolers, elementary students, and parents. The event, organized under the theme, “Children Are the Stars of Today, Let Them Have Fun,” will feature around 80 program booths allowing participants to experience games from the past, present, and future.
