Incheon to Provide Additional Scrappage Subsidies for Old Diesel Vehicles

Incheon Metropolitan City will begin accepting additional applications for its subsidy program for the early scrapping of old diesel vehicles on Sept. 1. 

The initiative is part of the city’s efforts to reduce air pollutants and improve air quality. 

The city plans to use the remaining budget of about 1.2 billion won to provide early-scrappage subsidies for around 400 old diesel vehicles and construction machinery on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Applications will be accepted from Sept. 1 until the budget runs out. Applications can be submitted online through the Automotive Emission Management System or by registered mail to the Korea Automobile Environmental Association.

Five Candidates Shortlisted for IFEZ Commissioner Position 

Five candidates have been shortlisted for the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ) Commissioner position, as it has been vacant for the past nine months. 

Incheon Metropolitan City said it narrowed down the applicants for the ninth commissioner of the authority to five after conducting a preliminary screening of their qualifications and documents. 

The city accepted applications from Aug. 10 to 14 and reviewed the submitted documents for any disqualifying factors. 

The city's selection committee will conduct interviews on the afternoon of Aug. 25 and further narrow down the candidates before notifying the Personnel Committee of the results on Aug. 26.

Culture Ministry to Host DMZ Peace Festa Next Month

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the Korea Tourism Organization, Incheon Metropolitan City and Gangwon Province, will hold the DMZ PEACE FESTA in September. 

The inaugural event will connect tourism content in areas bordering the Demilitarized Zone under three themes: nature and ecology; local life and residents' stories; and reflection and healing through wellness. 

The event will begin in Ganghwa-gun on Sept. 12 and 13 before moving to Cheorwon-gun in Gangwon Province on Sept. 26 and 27. 

A BMW riding tour will also be held in October in conjunction with “DMZ Visit Month,” offering benefits including integrated discount passes.

Incheon Bridge to Get 2.5-Meter Fall-Prevention Barrier

A 2.5-meter-high wire barrier will be installed along a four-kilometer one-way section of Incheon Bridge, covering the western approach bridge, cable-stayed bridge and eastern approach bridge, or eight kilometers in both directions. 

The height was determined after considering similar installations on other bridges, including Cheongna Haneul Bridge and Mapo Bridge, as well as maintenance and management requirements. 

The Incheon Bridge operator plans to begin commissioning the design this year, with construction targeted to begin next year. 

The operator will initially cover the costs, which will later be reflected in the private concession's operating expenses.

Incheon Int’l Airport Aims for 56,000 Parking Spaces by 2031

Incheon International Airport plans to expand its parking facilities with the goal of securing more than 56,000 parking spaces by 2031. 

The Incheon International Airport Corporation said it plans to spend 150 billion won to build a parking tower with two underground levels and three above-ground floors on the east side of Terminal 2 by 2031. 

The six-story facility, including the rooftop, will have about 1,300 parking spaces for short-term passenger parking. 

The corporation plans to conduct architectural planning and a transportation feasibility study by the first half of next year before beginning construction.

Incheon to Commemorate 76th Anniversary of Incheon Landing Operation

Incheon Metropolitan City will hold a six-day commemorative period across the city from Sept. 10 to 15 to mark the 76th anniversary of the Incheon Landing Operation. 

This year's programs will commemorate the sacrifices and dedication of veterans and highlight the historical significance of the operation, while giving citizens and younger generations opportunities to reflect on the values of freedom and peace. 

The program will include memorial events, educational and historical experiences, as well as cultural and citizen-participation activities. 

With large crowds expected during the commemorative period, the city plans to establish safety and traffic measures for each event and work closely with relevant agencies to ensure safe operations.
