Around 30 student council presidents attended the meeting this day. Some of the universities include Gachon University, Kyung-in Women’s University, Yonsei University, Incheon Catholic University, Incheon National University, Incheon Jaeneung University, Chungwoon University, Ghent University Global Campus, The State University of New York-SUNY, and George Mason University Korea.

During the meeting, attendees discussed the progress of initiatives regarding the suggestions of youths and university students, as well as shared the aspirations of this year’s student council presidents, among other operational matters.

Previously, the Incheon Metropolitan Government established a communication network among the student councils of 12 local universities in March of last year for the first time. Accordingly, the discussions covered fostering a youth-centered culture, hosting workshops for student councils, finding ways to encourage students’ participation in municipal affairs, creating youth-specialized streets, and reviewing scholarship support for universities entering Incheon Global Campus (IGC).

In particular, Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok organized university alliance festivals to foster reconciliation, communication, and friendship among universities. In November last year, Mayor Yoo invited local residents to a forum where anyone could share policy ideas.

The Incheon Metropolitan Government is promoting scholarship support programs by applying for the IGC Future Talent Scholarship. A permanent recruitment fair is also taking place to help young entrepreneurs seeking to expand overseas.

Moreover, there are plans to conclude the first phase of the Youth Culture Street Development Project in the area surrounding the IGC and Yonsei University International Campus by 2027.

Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok said, “At our meeting last December, I expressed that communication with students should not be merely ceremonial or formal. I will remain committed to sincerely listening to your stories and maintaining a meeting environment characterized by genuine conversations.”
