- Establishing a comprehensive support hub for the designation of specialized zones and fostering new industries

Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok) has established the “Incheon Distributed Energy Support Center” for the systematic advancement of Incheon-led distributed energy expansion policies, holding an opening ceremony at Incheon Technopark on January 26.

The ceremony was attended by key officials including the Director of Future Industry Bureau, Head of the Energy Policy Division, and Head of the Power and Energy Team in Incheon as well as the President of Incheon Technopark, Head of the Bio Carbon Neutrality Division, and Director of the Future Energy Center. The event included the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the establishment and operation of the Distributed Energy Support Center and an unveiling ceremony.

Through this agreement, Incheon Metropolitan City and Incheon Technopark agreed to promote the stable and efficient operation of the Distributed Energy Support Center and to build a cooperative framework to expand Incheon-led distributed energy and foster an innovative ecosystem.

The Incheon Distributed Energy Support Center will serve as a dedicated regional organization under the Special Act on the Activation of Distributed Energy. Its key functions will include: ▲  identifying distributed energy policies and providing institutional support; ▲ supporting the designation and operation of specialized distributed energy zones; ▲ analyzing the status of regional distributed energy resources; ▲ fostering new distributed energy industries and helping businesses; and ▲ conducting education and outreach for citizens and experts.

The city government will oversee distributed energy–related policies and projects and actively pursue administrative and institutional support as well as linked initiatives necessary for the center’s operation. Incheon Technopark will be responsible for providing technical and practical support for the planning, operation, and implementation of projects related to the creation of distributed energy-specializing zones and the promotion of distributed energy.

The two institutions plan to work closely across a range of areas including policy support, identification of new projects, demonstration and expansion initiatives, and education and outreach. Through this collaboration, they aim to implement proactive, field-oriented administration and advance cooperative initiatives systematically and in a step-by-step manner.

As a city with diverse energy demand and supply characteristics—including industrial complexes, ports, and island regions—Incheon expects the expansion of distributed energy to help enhance power grid stability, increase energy self-reliance, and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality.

“This agreement and the opening of the Distributed Energy Support Center are milestones in leading Incheon-driven distributed energy policies. With the support center serving as a hub, we will expand the designation of distributed energy zones and public–private cooperation projects, and continuously identify and disseminate distributed energy models tailored to regional characteristics,” said Lee Nam-ju, Director of Incheon's Future Industry Bureau.
