Incheon Targets Global Cruise Market at World’s Largest Expo as Demand Surges Fourfold- Participation in Seatrade Cruise Global, conducting focused marketing for cruise lines and travel agencies -Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok) announced that it has begun a full-scale push into the global cruise market, leveraging rapidly growing demand and signaling the dawn of the so-called “era of 130 cruise calls.”The city participated in Seatrade Cruise Global 2026, the world’s largest cruise industry exhibition, held in Miami, USA, from April 13 to 16, where city officials conducted targeted marketing activities to attract global cruise lines and travel agencies.Seatrade Cruise Global, launched in 1985, is the largest cruise industry exhibition in the world, serving as a leading business platform attended by approximately 10,000 stakeholders, including cruise lines, ports, and destination officials.At the event, Incheon operated a “Korea Cruise Pavilion” in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization and major domestic port-of-call institutions. A total of five Korean ports of call, including Incheon, jointly participated to promote tourism resources and port capacities.In recent years, Incheon’s cruise market has shown rapid growth. International cruise calls increased from 12 in 2023 to 15 in 2024 and further to 32 in 2025. In 2026, the number is expected to surge to 130 calls—more than four times the previous year.In line with this trend, the City actively promoted “Fly Cruise” packages linked with Incheon International Airport, along with its achievements in attracting themed cruises. Incheon to Open Access Road to Cheongna IHP from April 20- A 970-meter, six-lane road connecting Jungbong-daero and Bongsu-daero to improve access to industrial complex -The Comprehensive Construction Office of the Incheon Metropolitan City announced that the Cheongna IHP access road, which connects Jungbong-daero and Bongsu-daero, will officially open at 9 AM on April 20.The Cheongna IHP access road was constructed in the vicinity of 501 Bongsu-daero, Wonchang-dong, Seo-gu. Construction began in December 2020, with a total project cost of KRW 40.5 billion invested. The road spans 970 meters in length and 30 meters in width, consisting of six lanes, along with pedestrian sidewalks and bicycle paths.The city government expects that the opening of this road will improve accessibility within the Cheongna Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex and help alleviate chronic congestion during commuting hours. Incheon Invests KRW 12 Billion to Remove 5,600 Tons of Waste from Coastal Waters- Strengthening citizen participation and year-round cleanup efforts for comprehensive marine waste response -Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok) announced that it will invest KRW 12 billion this year to conduct year-round cleanup activities in response to marine waste flowing into its coastal waters.As marine waste continues to accumulate due to inland waste entering through the Han River estuary, as well as the effects of tides and ocean currents, the city aims to collect and process more than 5,600 tons of waste this year.Incheon faces high demand for marine waste management due to its widely distribution of islands and coastal areas. Over the past three years, Incheon has collected and processed an annual average of 5,540 tons of waste, with volumes showing a steady trend: 5,512 tons in 2023, 5,299 tons in 2024, and 5,811 tons in 2025.Accordingly, the city increased this year’s project budget to KRW 12 billion, approximately 9% higher than last year’s KRW 11.2 billion. In particular, strengthened national government support secured through consultations with central ministries has helped ensure a stable financial foundation for the project.Key initiatives will be implemented comprehensively, taking into account inflow routes and regional characteristics. This year, the race will return with further improvements, enhancing both participant convenience and course competitiveness.To ensure systematic safety management and operational efficiency in handling large crowds, the gathering venue has been relocated to the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium. The event will feature three categories: full marathon (42.195 km), 10 km, and 5 km.In particular, the city is reviewing a one-way full marathon course that passes through the Cheongnahaneuldaegyo Bridge, one of Incheon’s key landmarks. Incheon Advances Adjustment of National Basic Districts in Preparation for Administrative System Reorganization- Adjustment of address and postal districts to align with a new two-county, nine-district system -Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok) announced that it held a “Related Agencies Briefing on National Basic District Adjustment” on April 8 to share proposed adjustments to national basic districts and to strengthen inter-agency cooperation.The meeting was organized to raise awareness of the need for adjustments ahead of the administrative restructuring set to take effect on July 1, 2026, and to ensure the stable implementation of the system through collaboration among relevant institutions.National basic districts are sub-administrative units that divide the national territory into areas smaller than eup, myeon, and dong, based on the road name address system. They serve as a common foundational unit across various sectors, including postal services, statistics, policing, and firefighting. In particular, they are closely tied to daily life, as they have been used in the five-digit postal code system implemented since 2015.During the meeting, discussions focused on preemptively adjusting national basic districts in response to the expansion of Incheon’s administrative structure from two counties and eight districts to two counties and nine districts.Key proposals included the reconfiguration of national basic districts for Jemulpo-gu, which will be newly established through the integration of parts of Jung-gu and Dong-gu; Yeongjong-gu, which will be separated from Jung-gu’s Yeongjong area; and Geomdan-gu and Seohae-gu, which will be created through the division of Seo-gu.
