Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority Launches Incheon Smart City Summit Initiative
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority hosted “Incheon Smart City Summit 2024” yesterday 12th) at Gyeongwonjae Arirang Hall and officially declared the “Incheon Smart City Summit Initiative” to promote smart city development and global cooperation.
With over 100 representatives from domestic and international cities, public institutions, academia and startups attending the summit, 10 cities from around the world expressed their support for the Incheon Smart City Summit Initiative and signed a multilateral agreement pledging a joint response within the international community.
Led by Incheon, cities including Mombasa, a port city in Kenya; Dakar in Senegal; Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh in India; Konza Technopolis in Kenya; Benue State and Zamfara State in Nigeria and Lusaka and Lukomo City in Zambia have joined force. These cities plan to share and develop solutions tailored to their unique characteristics based on Incheon’s successful smart city model, while collaborating to exchange smart city technologies and expertise through international cooperation.
Incheon to Invite Leaders of 8 Allied Nations to Next Year’s Incheon Landing Ceremony
A plan is underway to elevate the Incheon Landing Commemoration, which marked a major turning point in the Korean War, to a high-level international event.
Incheon announced plans to host the 75th anniversary of the Incheon Landing Operation next September as a large-scale international event, inviting leaders, governors, mayors, and veterans from the eight allied nations that participated in the Korean War.
The city plans to begin preparations in earnest to invite the leaders of the eight nations that participated in the landing operation - South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands.
The government is working with foreign authorities, and if the invitation of leaders from major countries, including the United States, is successfully arranged, the Incheon Landing commemoration event is expected to be a significant opportunity to promote Incheon as an “International Peace City” to the world.
Incheon Island Development Support Center Launches “Island Wave”
Incheon and the Incheon Tourism Organization announced that the “2024 Incheon Island Next-Generation Leader Capacity Building Training Program” began on November 11.
The program selects young people from 10 island regions in Incheon, providing them with an opportunity to grow as next-generation leaders who will uncover the value of local resources and lead the sustainable development of island regions.
The name “Island Wave” reflects the hope that young people from Incheon’s islands will become a wave of change, fostering sustainable partnerships within their communities and emerging as leaders who drive regional revitalization.
The training will be conducted in two sessions, one lasting 1 night and 2 days, and the other 2 nights and 3 days. The first session will take place from November 11 (Monday) to November 12 (Tuesday), and the second session will run from November 18 (Monday) to November 20 (Wednesday).
102 Incheon-style Citizen Professors Appointed
Incheon held the “Incheon-style Citizen Professor Appointment Ceremony” yesterday.
The “Incheon-style Citizen Professor” program is an initiative launched as part of the citizen pledges of the 8th elected administration. It aims to return the talents and knowledge of community members to the citizens, while supporting them to become instructors in various fields.
Aiming to train 300 citizen professors over three years starting in 2023, 102 new citizen professors were appointed this year, following 117 appointments last year.
They are expected to share their expertise and talents with Incheon citizens, bringing new energy to the local community.
