Incheon's Tidal Flats: The Hidden Key to Carbon Neutrality

The Incheon Metropolitan City Institute of Health and Environment has revealed that Incheon's tidal flats could be a crucial resource for achieving carbon neutrality goals.

The institute conducted a detailed study on the carbon storage capabilities of the tidal flats in Dongmak, Ganghwa Gun, and Yeongjong Island, quantifying the carbon stored and analyzing seasonal carbon absorption patterns.

Covering 28% of the nation's tidal flat area, Incheon's tidal flats are second only to those in South Jeolla Province in size. This scientific proof that unvegetated tidal flats can absorb and store carbon highlights their significant role not just for Incheon but also for national efforts in achieving carbon neutrality and combating the climate crisis.
