Incheon to Establish New Water Management Agency for Yeongjong and Ongjin Island Regions

Incheon Metropolitan Government has announced plans to establish the Yeongjong•Ongjin Waterworks Office to ensure a stable water supply system for the island regions.

The city has identified the lack of a dedicated agency to address water shortages in its island areas, including the five West Sea islands near North Korea. Factors such as climate change and increasing tourist numbers have contributed to groundwater depletion in these regions.

Currently, Incheon operates five waterworks offices—Central, Southeastern, Northern, Western, and Ganghwa. With the establishment of the new office covering Yeongjong and Ongjin next year, the total number will increase to six.

Incheon plans to finalize detailed implementation plans in the second half of the year and proceed with administrative procedures, including obtaining approval for organizational restructuring from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
