Incheon’s “1,000-Won Housing” Program Closes Applications for Jeonse-Type Units
Incheon City announced that applications have closed for the “1,000-Won Housing (Jeonse rental housing)” program, which began accepting submissions on May 12.
The “1,000-Won Housing” is a local housing policy that provides affordable rental homes to newlyweds and other groups. Residents pay just 1,000 won per day, or 30,000 won per month, to ensure stable living conditions.
With the application period now closed, the city will review applicants’ income and assets. Final tenant selections will be announced on the Incheon Urban Development Corporation website after July 31.
Incheon City Establishes Master Plan for Sawol Village Urban Development
Incheon City has created an integrated urban development master plan to improve the living environment in Sawol Village, located in Wanggil-dong, Seo-gu. The area was previously found unfit for residential use.
Since August 2023, the city has carried out a feasibility study and basic planning for the “Eco-Meta City” urban development project. The plan divides the area into east and west zones based on Jungbong-daero while connecting green zones and community centers.
Through zoning, development planning, and designating a project operator, Incheon aims to transform the area into an eco-friendly residential city.
Incheon Wins 2025 National Brand Award for Birth Policy
On May 14, Incheon City received the top prize in the birth policy category at the “2025 National Brand Awards,” held at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The award recognizes Incheon’s “I Plus Dream” initiative, a birth policy designed to address Korea’s declining birth rate. Incheon was the first city in the country to introduce such a program.
In 2023, the number of newborns in Incheon increased by 11.6% compared to the previous year—the highest rate nationwide. The city’s total fertility rate also rose from 0.69 in 2023 to 0.76 in 2024, surpassing the national average.
Incheon to Enforce Fines for Unreported Rental Contracts
Incheon Metropolitan City announced that the grace period for the Housing Lease Reporting System has ended. Starting next month, violators will face fines.
If you sign a housing lease agreement, the parties involved—or someone authorized—must report it to the local administrative welfare center within 30 days.
Failure to report or delayed reporting can result in fines of up to 300,000 won, depending on the delay and property value. Submitting false information can lead to a fine of up to 1 million.
Incheon Launches Integrated Design Project for 168 Islands
Incheon City will carry out an integrated design and pilot branding project for its island regions.
The project aims to enhance the appeal of Incheon’s beautiful islands and strengthen their competitiveness by developing a regional brand and addressing issues like depopulation and aging.
The key goal is to link all 168 islands in Incheon into one unified regional hub. By doing so, the city hopes to shift from “isolated islands” to “connected islands” by improving inter-island ties, discovering unique island brands, and establishing a sustainable design management system.
Incheon Celebrates World Day for Cultural Diversity
On May 17, Incheon City hosted the 18th World Day for Cultural Diversity celebration at Aetdeul Square in front of City Hall, with over 2,000 people participating.
The World Day was established as a national observance in 2007 to promote understanding and coexistence among people from different cultural backgrounds.
This year’s event highlighted Incheon’s growing role as a multicultural society. It marked an important step toward building a more inclusive and communicative community where various cultures coexist.
Incheon Holds Youth Month Celebration in May
Incheon Metropolitan City held the “2025 Youth Month Celebration” on May 17 at the main conference hall of City Hall. The event was a great success.
Held in honor of Youth Month, the event aimed to boost pride among young people and provide real motivation for planning their futures. Around 250 youth and youth leaders attended.

Incheon Expands Use of Cooking Robots in School Meals
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education is expanding the use of robotic systems to improve school meal preparation.
Recently, cooking robot systems were installed at three schools: Incheon Nonhyeon Middle School, Bugwang High School, and Garim High School.
These upgraded systems offer improved hygiene, safety, and efficiency compared to previous models. They are designed with advanced technology, making them ideal for maintaining a safe and sanitary cooking environment.
