Incheon City to Host ‘Incheon Maek Gang Party’ on June 28
Incheon City will host the 3rd ‘1883 Incheon Maek Gang Party’ at the Incheon Port Sangsang Platform on June 28.
The number ‘1883’ refers to the year Incheon Port opened, while ‘Maek Gang’ is a combination of the Korean words for beer and dakgangjeong, a sweet and spicy deep-fried chicken dish that is a popular local specialty in Incheon.
The city expects around 20,000 visitors to attend the festival, including some 5,000 international tourists. In addition to the Maek Gang Party, the surrounding Sangsang Platform area will also host a night market and the Bam Bam Festa on the same day.
Incheon City to Step Up Efforts to Attract Companies to Gyeyang Techno Valley
Incheon City is stepping up efforts to attract companies to Gyeyang Techno Valley, which is currently under development as an urban high-tech industrial complex.
To prepare for company move-ins scheduled for the end of next year, the city plans to launch a task force next month and establish a new unit tentatively named the ‘Gyeyang TV Project Team’ as part of an organizational restructuring.
To encourage investment from both domestic and foreign-invested companies, Incheon City also plans to revise a municipal ordinance to provide an additional 25 percent acquisition tax reduction within the industrial complex. The city further plans to expand its employment subsidy program.
Incheon Port International Passenger Terminal Explores Plans for New Wedding Hall
To increase passenger traffic at the Incheon Port International Passenger Terminal, which serves Korea–China car ferries, plans are underway to convert part of the terminal into a wedding hall.
The Incheon Port Authority (IPA) announced that it is negotiating with a private company to operate the wedding hall in the event space on the terminal's fifth floor.
If the wedding hall is established, it would be the first of its kind at any airport or port passenger terminal in Korea.
Incheon City to Hold Ceremony for Opening of Geomdan Extension Line on June 27
Incheon City will hold an official ceremony on June 27 to mark the opening of the Geomdan Extension Line of Incheon Subway Line 1. The event is scheduled to take place at ground level near Singeomdanjungang Station (Station 102).
The ceremony, held ahead of the line’s official launch on June 28, aims to celebrate the milestone with local residents and underscore the project’s importance in fostering balanced regional development and improving transportation infrastructure.
Incheon City expects the extension to significantly enhance access to downtown Incheon for residents of Geomdan New Town, while also reducing commute times, boosting public transit usage, and expanding the city’s residential reach.
Incheon Housing and City Development Corporation to Launch Public Contest for Policy Ideas
Incheon Housing and City Development Corporation will launch a public contest to collect citizen ideas aimed at shaping Incheon-style housing welfare policies.
The contest seeks creative proposals from residents to develop effective and practical housing welfare initiatives tailored to Incheon’s needs, while ensuring direct public input in policy development.
Selected outstanding ideas will be further reviewed in cooperation with relevant government departments for possible inclusion in Incheon’s housing welfare policies.
Incheon City to Launch ‘Global Digital Nomad Hub’ Initiative
Incheon City has announced plans to launch the ‘Global Digital Nomad Hub’ project to attract foreign digital nomads and workation travelers.
Digital nomads are remote workers who stay in one place for extended periods, forming a new type of workforce that contributes positively to the local economy.
The city plans to provide workspaces such as shared offices and hotel lounges, while also repurposing vacant facilities in population-declining areas like Ganghwa and Ongjin as long-term stay hubs. Incheon will work with companies specializing in workation services to recruit participants and offer experience-based tourism programs. It also aims to improve the living environment by offering multilingual administrative support and linking the initiative to digital nomad visa programs.
