Incheon to Begin Detailed Design for Phase 2 of Former Gyeongin Expressway Conversion to General Road


Work is being carried out in phases to demolish the retaining walls and soundproof barriers along the former Gyeongin Expressway that has divided downtown Incheon for over 50 years.

Incheon City announced it will begin detailed design work for Phase 2 of the Incheon-daero conversion project, targeting completion by 2030.

The city plans to invest a total of 822.2 billion won to demolish retaining walls, soundproof barriers, and overpasses along the 5.64-kilometer Phase 2 section. The upper level will feature a four-lane general road in both directions and a central green park, while the lower level will have a four-lane underground roadway in both directions.







Incheon Subway Line 1 Geomdan Extension Opens


The Incheon Subway Line 1 Geomdan Extension officially opened on the 28th, beginning operations with its first train at 5:30 AM.

The Geomdan Extension is a 6.8-kilometer route that extends from Gyeyang Station, the previous terminal station of Incheon Line 1, to three new stations: Ara Station, Singeomdan Jungang Station, and Geomdan Lake Park Station.

The Geomdan Extension opened 5 years and 6 months after construction began in December 2019 as part of the Geomdan New Town metropolitan transportation improvement plan, with a total project cost of 790 billion won.







Incheon City Hosts Children's Rights Talk Concert Created with Children


Incheon City announced that it successfully held the "2025 Children's Rights Talk Concert with the Ombudsperson" on the 28th in the main conference room of City Hall.

Incheon City has taken proactive measures to respond to summer torrential rains and urban flooding.

According to Incheon City, the "Phase 3 Chronic Flooding Area Control System Construction Project," which began on March 27, has been completed.

The city installed 60 Internet of Things (IoT)-based flood detection sensors at 15 locations prone to flood damage to strengthen disaster response capabilities.

This establishes a "continuous" monitoring system for flood-prone areas such as low-lying urban areas and semi-basement residential neighborhoods.

A collaborative platform bringing together civil society, government, industry, and academia for Incheon's sustainable future, the "Incheon Love Pan-Citizen Network," has been launched.

The Incheon Love Pan-Citizen Network is a coalition centered on civil society, formed to address major challenges facing Incheon, including resolving discrimination against the metropolitan area, realizing local autonomy, and establishing Incheon's identity.

As a practice-oriented cooperative network led by citizens with collaboration between civil society, government, industry, and academia, it has begun full-scale activities following its launch.

The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it held its first "Networking Day for Activating Education of Students with North Korean Background" on the 26th to support educational assistance for students with North Korean backgrounds.

The networking day brought together participants from the Incheon Unification Plus Center, Incheon Hana Center, and the Korea Educational Development Institute's Educational Support Center for North Korean Defector Youth to explore various measures for supporting education of students with North Korean backgrounds.

An official from the metropolitan education office said, "This networking day marks the starting point for cooperation in supporting education for students with North Korean backgrounds," adding, "We will develop student-centered support measures by reflecting opinions from the field."





Michuhol-gu, Incheon Holds Meetings with Elementary, Middle, and High School Parents


Michuhol-gu, Incheon held meetings with parents from elementary, middle, and high schools a total of four times from the 16th to 27th at the Career Education Support Center.

About 80 parent representatives from 50 schools across the district attended to share the results of addressing major suggestions from last year.

The district has been implementing various student support programs as part of the Educational Innovation District project since 2022, including public-private-academic governance operations, community-linked educational activity support, youth community participation clubs, and book village projects. Through these meetings, the district plans to listen to parents' voices about the educational field and reflect them in policy.
