Incheon City to Host 2nd Commemoration Event for North Korean Defectors Day on July 13
Incheon Metropolitan City will host the 2nd North Korean Defectors Day Commemoration Event on July 13 at the Art Center Incheon Concert Hall.
North Korean Defectors Day was designated a national commemorative day in 2024 under the Act on the Protection and Settlement Support of North Korean Defectors. The event aims to honor the courage of defectors who risked everything for freedom and to foster a shared vision for a better future with Incheon citizens.
The commemorative concert will feature 13 performances, including a self-composed piece by defector and composer Kim Young-nam that expresses the longing and pride of North Korean defectors. Other highlights include “Arirang,” “A Million Roses,” and more, performed by a women’s choir, soloists, and a full orchestra.
Incheon City Confirms All Seafood Products Passed Safety Tests in First Half of 2025
The Incheon Institute of Health and Environment conducted seafood safety inspections from January to June 2025 on products distributed throughout the city.
A total of 714 seafood samples were tested, sourced from various distribution channels including fish markets, large discount stores, online retailers, and traditional markets.
The results showed that all tested items, including popular choices such as mackerel, hairtail, pollack, and squid, met safety standards. Notably, no traces of radiation were detected, reaffirming the safety of seafood sold in the Incheon area.
Incheon’s First Full-Time Care Workers Retire from Bupyeong Welfare Center
The Bupyeong Welfare Center, operated by the Incheon Metropolitan City Public Agency for Social Service, recently announced the retirement of three full-time care workers—the first in Incheon to be employed on regular contracts.
The center provides services such as long-term elderly care, daily assistance, and emergency support, and is directly managed by the city’s social service agency.
Full-time care workers at the facility are guaranteed stable salaries and work standard eight-hour shifts.
Fire in Incheon’s Guwol-dong Villa Extinguished After Two Hours
A fire broke out at around 3:18 a.m. today in a two-story villa with a basement in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, and was extinguished two hours later.
A man in his 40s and a woman in her 50s, both residents of the villa, sustained burns to their hands and ears and were transported to a hospital. Five other residents either evacuated on their own or were rescued.
Fire authorities believe the blaze started in a pile of construction materials behind the building and are investigating the exact cause and the extent of the damage.
Incheon Haneulsoo Supporters Begin Official Activities
The Incheon Metropolitan Government launched the 2025 Incheon Haneulsoo Supporters on July 9, marking the start of official activities aimed at restoring public trust in water services and ensuring objectivity in tap water quality management.
Haneulsoo Supporters is a citizen participation program that engages a diverse group of residents in monitoring water administration and promoting related initiatives. Launched in 2020 as the “Tap Water Supporters,” the program is now in its sixth year.
Following the launch ceremony, members will participate in orientation and hands-on promotional training. Through the end of the year, they will carry out activities such as verifying tap water safety, experiencing core water services, and using various media platforms to promote a positive image of Incheon’s tap water.
Namdong-gu Transforms Abandoned House Site into Parking Lot and Rest Area
Namdong-gu in Incheon has demolished abandoned houses in the Mansu-dong 842 area and developed the site into a parking lot and small rest area.
According to Namdong-gu, the site was originally designated for a pilot project to purchase vacant homes, but the plan was canceled after it was selected in 2023 as a candidate site for redevelopment within the Dongbu Elementary School zone.
The new rest area is intended to serve as a small shelter where residents can take a rest.
