Geyang-gu selected for the pilot “Young Adult Household Split—Mock Application” project

Geyang-gu said it was finally selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare pilot to pay basic livelihood benefits separately to poor 20s young adults living apart from parents, and will run it from October to February 2026.

Under the current Basic Livelihood Security system, benefits are paid per household, and unmarried children under 30 are counted with parents even if living apart.

Thus, some cannot apply even when not supported by parents, causing economic hardship.

To fix this gap, the gu will mock-apply separate benefits when unmarried youths aged 19–29 live apart from parents.

Applications are made by the youth at the community service center; youths formerly in out-of-home care can get faster decisions if they submit a referral from their care agency.
