Songdo Overseas Koreans Town Construction Cost Lawsuit Ends
A lawsuit between a public developer and a major construction company over the overseas Koreans town project in Incheon has ended with a settlement. According to the Incheon Free Economic Zone and others, a construction payment lawsuit filed by POSCO E&C against Incheon Global City, a city-funded company, was closed through a court recommendation for settlement. With this decision, the phase-3 project of the Songdo Overseas Koreans Town, is expected to move forward in full scale, following phases 1 and 2.
Incheon to Invest 26 Billion Won to Create ‘Livable Fishing Villages’
Incheon Metropolitan City will invest 26 billion won to improve quality of life for fishermen and revitalize fishing village economies this year. As part of the plan to improve the living environment of fishing villages to urban levels, the city will carry out the “new vitality for fishing villages” project at five ports, including Janggot Port, Jumun Port, and Seondu Port in Ganghwa-gun, Jido Port in Ongjin-gun, and Yedanpo Port in Jung-gu. At Seodumul Port and Deokgyo Port, multi-purpose floating piers will be installed to improve response to natural disasters such as typhoons. Also, safety measures will be strengthened at 51 ports across the city.
Incheon Begins Data Transfer for New Districts to Launch in July
Incheon Metropolitan City has begun preparations to transfer administrative data for three new districts set to launch in July. The project involves transferring about 8.5 billion standard code entries used in nine common government systems, including resident registration and local tax services. The city plans to develop special transfer programs and conduct repeated trial runs to prevent system errors and service disruptions. Starting July 1, the current Jung-gu and Dong-gu will be reorganized into Yeongjong-gu, centered on Yeongjong Island, and Jemulpo-gu, covering inland areas of Jung-gu and Dong-gu.
Incheon to Invest 1.1766 Trillion Won in Youth Policies by 2030
Incheon Metropolitan City has finalized the second basic plan for youth policy during a meeting of the Youth Policy Coordination Committee. The plan sets the direction and strategies for youth policies over the next five years. By 2030, a total of 1.1766 trillion won from national and city budgets will be invested in 67 projects across five areas, including jobs, education, and housing.
The city said it will link policies across these areas to build an ecosystem where young people can study, work, and settle in Incheon.
Incheon Recruiting Organizations to Run Urban Farming Programs
Incheon Metropolitan City is recruiting organizations to run urban farming programs for this year. Applications will be accepted from January 22 through February 6. The programs include community urban gardens and therapeutic garden learning support projects, targeting urban agriculture groups in Incheon. Incheon Port Container Volume Expected to Rebound by 3% This Year
Container traffic at Incheon Port is expected to recover slightly this year as external uncertainties ease. At a trade and cargo outlook seminar hosted by the Incheon Port Authority, an analyst from the Korea Maritime Institute predicted container volume would exceed last year by more than 3 percent, reaching about 3.57 million TEUs. The Incheon Port Authority has set this year’s target at 3.56 million TEUs. However, oil cargo volume is expected to decrease slightly due to weaker energy demand from the economic slowdown.
