Incheon Promotes Mandatory Life Jacket Rule for All Fishing Vessels

Incheon Metropolitan City will launch on-site outreach and guidance activities ahead of a new regulation requiring all passengers aboard fishing boats to wear life jackets, to be implemented July 1. The campaign aims to raise safety awareness among fishermen and ensure the stable establishment of the system, which is intended to prevent accidents such as falls overboard during fishing operations and to minimize casualties in emergency situations. The city will deploy fisheries guidance vessels to major fishing grounds, including waters off Ganghwa-gun and Ongjin-gun, to conduct intensive safety campaigns. The outreach will focus on key safety practices, including the mandatory wearing of life jackets by all passengers, pre-departure inspections of safety equipment, checking weather conditions in advance, and avoiding excessive or risky fishing operations.

Incheon to Conduct Comprehensive Review of Licensed Real Estate Agents

Incheon Metropolitan City will conduct a comprehensive review of licensed real estate agents to improve the accuracy of qualification records and prevent illegal brokerage activities. The city noted that it has faced difficulties managing license information, particularly when certificate holders pass away and the return of their licenses is delayed. The review is aimed at preventing practices such as the unauthorized use of licenses issued in the names of deceased agents and at strengthening the overall management system for licensed real estate brokers.

The inspection will cover 31,975 individuals who were issued real estate agent licenses by the city from the first national examination in 1985 through the 36th examination in 2025.

Incheon Launches Full-Scale Summer Disaster Response

Incheon says it will operate a summer natural disaster response period from May 15 to October 15 to protect residents from heavy rain, heat waves, and other seasonal hazards. Ahead of the summer rainy season, city officials will visit all 10 districts and counties to inspect recovery sites damaged by last August’s torrential rains and review coordination and cooperation measures between the city and local governments from May 18 to 26. Key inspection items include measures to prevent recurrence in flood-damaged areas, plans for controlling underground spaces and resident evacuation, customized safety management for vulnerable groups in preparation for heatwaves, response systems related to administrative system reorganization, safety measures for uncompleted disaster recovery sites, and sharing of changes to weather advisories from the Korea Meteorological Administration. Through the inspections, authorities will verify the on-site response system and discuss areas for improvement.

The project will replace older map-based data with updated digital information using satellite communications and precision surveying technologies. Officials say the key objective is to minimize errors by identifying the exact location and burial depth of water pipelines.
