Incheon Launches Comprehensive Chuseok Convenience Measures

Incheon Metropolitan City is implementing a comprehensive set of measures for the 2026 Choo-suck holiday.

The comprehensive measures cover transportation, healthcare, visits to family graves, the local economy and cultural activities.

From September 24 to 27, the city will operate an emergency response system consisting of 15 situation teams and implement measures in 12 areas closely related to residents’ daily lives.

The comprehensive measures focus on reducing the burden on people traveling home for the holiday and providing practical support to the local economy.

To make travel more convenient and ease the financial burden on residents, the city will introduce special transportation measures.

From midnight on September 24 through midnight on September 27, tolls will be completely waived on privately operated tunnels and bridges, including Won-juck-san and Man-wall-san Tunnels, as well as Chung-lah Ha-neul Bridge.

Additional services such as extra trips for express buses, intercity buses, coastal passenger ferries and Incheon Metro subways will be provided.

Incheon Metro will also extend operating hours for subways.

Korean-American Artists’ Exhibition Opens at Overseas Koreans Welcome Center

Incheon Metropolitan City will host the “2026 Invitational Exhibition of Korean-American Artists” at the Overseas Koreans Welcome Center from September 21.

The exhibition features works that capture Korean American artists’ memories of and longing for their homeland.

Organized by the city and sponsored by the Ko-song Cultural Foundation, the exhibition is also being held in conjunction with the 24th World Korean Business Convention, which will take place from September 28 to 30, to reflect on the historical significance of Korean immigration that began at Incheon’s Jay-mool-poe Port more than 120 years ago.

Held under the theme “Stories Meet Again in Incheon,” the exhibition features 22 Korean American artists who are actively working in the United States.

The artists are showcasing around 50 works that portray the landscapes and people of Korea, as well as Korean cultural sensibilities from their own unique perspectives.

Incheon Promises Efforts to Overcome Jemulpo’s Steel Industry Crisis

Incheon Metropolitan City said it has officially submitted an application to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to designate the steel industry in Jay-mool-poe-goo as a preemptive industrial crisis response area.

The steel industry in Jay-mool-poe-goo is facing serious difficulties due to a combination of domestic and external challenges, including the prolonged downturn in the construction sector, an influx of low-priced Chinese steel products, higher U. S. tariffs on steel and rising industrial electricity prices.

If the area is designated, comprehensive support programs for businesses, workers and the local economy will be implemented for two years from the date of the designation announcement.

Incheon has closely analyzed the crisis facing the steel industry and has continued consultations with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Incheon to Hold Jajangmyeon Festival October 3–4

Incheon Metropolitan City will hold the “2026 Incheon Ja-jang-myeon Festival” from October 3 to 4 in Hang-me-dan-gil, Sang-sang Platform and the Chinatown area.

The festival is designed to promote Incheon’s unique story as the birthplace of Korean-style ja-jang-myeon and its food culture, while connecting tourism resources around the former port area with local businesses.

Along Hang-me-dan-gil in Jay-mool-poe-goo, Incheon, booths offering a variety of ja-jang-myeon for tasting and sale, along with food and beverage booths and experience and event booths, will operate from 1 p. m. to 8 p. m. on both days.

Three times a day, traditional Chinese lion and dragon dance parades will take place around Chinatown.

Visitors who complete a stamp tour using the Incheon EASY app can also receive prizes, including Chinatown meal kits.

Incheon Education Office Holds Committee Meeting on Gender Awareness

The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education held the second Gender Awareness Improvement Committee meeting of 2026 to discuss policy directions for creating an educational environment free from gender discrimination and sexual violence.

The meeting included a review of the achievements of the Gender Sensitivity and Alternative Education Team during the first semester.

Participants also discussed various issues, including measures to expand prevention education on digital sexual violence in middle and high schools, an issue that has recently gained significant public attention.

The education office said it will continue to refine and implement policies based on the discussions, with a focus on protecting students, promoting a gender-equal school culture and creating a safe educational environment.
