Incheon Conducts Safety Inspections Ahead of World Korean Business Convention

Incheon Metropolitan City is conducting preliminary safety inspections of food and beverage facilities, accommodations and fire safety systems ahead of the 24th World Korean Business Convention.

The convention will be held at Songdo Convensia from September 28 to 30.

According to the city, inspections have been carried out at 72 accommodations across Incheon to ensure compliance with hygiene regulations.

The city is also conducting hygiene inspections at food and beverage facilities inside the convention venue and nearby restaurants.

For fire hazards and other emergency response measures, the city plans to inspect fire safety equipment and overall safety management at Songdo Convensia in cooperation with the Songdo Fire Station.

Incheon Lacks Industrial Accident-Related Water Pollution Preventing Facilities

A recent investigation has discovered that Incheon has no buffer storage facilities designed to prevent contaminated water from industrial accidents from flowing into nearby waterways.

Buffer storage facilities are legally required to temporarily store contaminated water from these accidents, such as contaminated water used for fire fighting or water containing hazardous substances.

In Incheon, eight industrial complexes, including general and national industrial complexes, have been designated as sites required to install such facilities.

However, none have completed installation and begun operation.

Only 40 of the 200 industrial complexes required to install buffer storage facilities nationwide, including those in Incheon, have actually installed them, meaning 80 percent remain without the facilities.

Incheon Folk Art Win Top Honors at 67th Korean Folk Arts Festival

Local artists representing Incheon have achieved notable results at a national competition for traditional Korean folk arts, showcasing the excellence of Incheon’s traditional music and mask dance.

Incheon Metropolitan City said the youth troupe of the Eunyul Talchum Preservation Society, which represented Incheon in the youth category at the 67th Korean Folk Arts Festival, won the Grand Prize, presented by the Minister of Education.

Meanwhile, the Incheon Coastal Islands Funeral Chant Preservation Society won the Heritage Transmission Award in the general category.

The three-day festival was held from September 18 to 20 at Jinbu Myeonmin Sports Park in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.

This year’s festival featured 21 groups in the general category and 12 youth groups representing cities and provinces across the country and the five northern provinces.

Museum of Korean Emigration History Opens Exhibit on Korean POWs in Hawaii

The Museum of Korean Emigration History in Incheon will hold a special exhibition titled Days Trapped in Paradise: Records of Korean Prisoners of War in Hawaii from September 22 through February 21 next year in its special exhibition gallery.

The exhibition follows the perspective of Hwang Hae-su, a real-life figure from Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, and sheds new light on the experiences of Korean prisoners of war, from their forced relocation to the South Seas and capture, to interrogations by the U.S. military intelligence agency JICPOA, conflicts between Korean and Japanese ethnic groups at POW camps, and the prisoners’ everyday lives.

Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra Launches Brahms Complete Works Series

The Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra will hold its 448th regular concert, Brahms by the Incheon Philharmonic, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 23, at the Arts Center Incheon Concert Hall.

The performance will mark the opening of Brahms in Autumn, a new series launched by the orchestra in 2026 to present Brahms’ complete works.

Against the backdrop of the changing autumn season, the concert will offer audiences an opportunity to experience both the delicate beauty and grand scale of Brahms’ music in a single performance.

Tickets for the 448th regular concert cost 10,000 won. Reservations are available through the Incheon Culture and Arts Center and Arts Center Incheon websites, as well as En-Ticket and NOL Ticket.
