Heatwave Causes Surge in Heat-Related Illnesses This Week, 3.5 Times More than Last Week
As the heatwave continues, more than 100 heat-related illnesses have been reported in the first three days of this week.
According to heat-related illness statistics from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, 40 cases were reported on the 22nd, 29 cases on the 23rd, and 55 cases on the 24th, by over 500 emergency medical institutions nationwide.
The KDCA suggests preventive measures against heat-related illnesses, including:
Taking frequent showers and wearing loose, light-colored clothing ▲Drinking water regularly
▲ Avoiding outdoor activities, work, and exercise between noon and 5 PM, and staying in cool places.
Inauguration Ceremony for the First IFEZ Global Honorary Reporters of 2024
The Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) announced the inauguration ceremony for the first batch of 2024 IFEZ Global Honorary Reporters and the commencement of their activities.
The IFEZ Global Honorary Reporters were selected as part of a promotional project utilizing social media and new media platforms. Out of the applicants who passed the interview, three Koreans and eight foreigners were chosen for their active operation of personal media channels like Instagram and their ability to write at least one article per month.
The Global Honorary Reporters will participate in various activities, including familiarization tours of key locations in the Incheon Free Economic Zone. They will cover events, programs, and tourist resources, writing at least one article each month.
Malaysian reporter Soh Jue Shuen, who was among the final selections, expressed, “I want to explore the positive impacts of urban development on the community. I am excited to witness the growth happening here and to contribute to spreading this news worldwide.”
First Japanese Encephalitis Carrier Mosquitoes Found in Incheon This Year... Virus 'Not Detected'
The Incheon Metropolitan City Institute of Health and Environment announced the collection of 'Culex tritaeniorhynchus' mosquitoes, carriers of Japanese encephalitis, in Ganghwa County and Jung Gu District for the first time this year.
The mosquitoes were first identified in Incheon during the third week of July (July 15-21), two weeks earlier than last year's first identification in the first week of August (July 31-August 6).
Testing of the collected mosquitoes for pathogens revealed no detection of the Japanese encephalitis virus, indicating no risk of disease transmission.
An Incheon City official emphasized, “Avoiding mosquito bites is crucial to prevent mosquito-borne diseases, and we urge strict adherence to preventive measures.”
Incheon Leads in Environmental Protection, Allocates 5.6 Billion KRW for Early Vehicle Retirement Subsidies
Incheon Metropolitan City will begin accepting additional applications for early retirement subsidies for old diesel vehicles starting August 5.
The additional allocation amounts to approximately 5.6 billion KRW, aimed at providing subsidies for the early retirement of around 1,800 old diesel vehicles and construction machinery.
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis starting August 5 until the budget is exhausted. Interested parties can apply after registering on the Ministry of Environment's Comprehensive Automobile Emission Control System website.
