World Conference on Nuclear Structural Engineering ‘SMiRT 30’ to Be Held in Songdo, Incheon in 2029

Incheon Metropolitan City and Incheon Tourism Organization announced that the 30th Structural Mechanics in Reactor Technology (SMiRT) conference, the world’s leading academic event in nuclear structural engineering, will be held in Songdo, Incheon, in August 2029.

The SMiRT conference began in Germany in 1971 and has since been held every two years as a major international event in nuclear structural engineering.

Hosting ‘SMiRT 30’ in Incheon is expected to be supported by the advanced facilities and multi-level support system of the International Conference Complex in Songdo International City.

Incheon to Hear Residents’ Opinions on Revitalizing Gyeongin Ara Waterway

Incheon Metropolitan City announced that as part of the ‘Basic Plan for Revitalization of the Gyeongin Ara Waterway,’ which has been underway since February, it will conduct a second survey of residents and users until September 10.

The second survey is intended to identify preferences and demand for existing facilities and new projects developed through the study, so they can be reflected in the basic plan.

Through the survey, the city plans to gather demand for cultural and tourism use, development of cycling and walking trails, and expansion of family rest areas and convenience facilities, to be reflected in the plan.

Incheon Promotes Suicide Prevention with ‘Life Keepers’

Incheon Metropolitan City is taking the lead in building a community safety net by promoting various policies with ‘Life Keepers,’ who work across the community to spread a culture of respect for life and prevent suicide.

‘Life Keepers’ work in places close to daily life such as taxis, academies, pharmacies, medical institutions, and religious facilities, to identify neighbors in crisis early and connect them to professional services.

The city provides refresher training, case sharing of crisis intervention, and professional resource connections to help them fulfill their role, and will continue to support diverse programs to strengthen their activities.

Incheon Fire Academy Relocates to Ganghwa-gun with New Facilities, Opens on 29th

The Incheon Fire Academy, responsible for firefighter training and citizen safety education, has been relocated from Seo-gu to Ganghwa-gun.

Incheon Fire Headquarters announced that the new academy in Inhwa-ri, Ganghwa-gun, will begin administrative and training operations on the 29th.

The new academy is equipped with electronic boards and podiums in all classrooms for multimedia use and has a dormitory with 66 rooms that can accommodate 152 trainees.

Incheon Joins Hands with Business Groups and Overseas Trade Offices to Respond to U.S. Tariffs

Incheon Metropolitan City is stepping up support for local exporters in response to high U.S. tariff policies.

On the 27th, the city held a meeting at the Sheraton Grand Incheon Hotel in Songdo with business groups to discuss support measures for exporters.

The city announced that it will actively review support measures, including overseas market development through overseas trade offices, emergency stabilization funds for exporters, and expanded support for export insurance and overseas logistics costs to reduce risks in entering new markets.

Incheon Eum Card to Offer 10% Cashback at Stores with Annual Sales Under 3 Billion

Incheon City announced that starting next month, cashback benefits for the local currency, Eum Card, will be expanded to boost consumption.

As a result, at all affiliated stores with annual sales under 3 billion, users will receive 10% cashback on payments made with the Eum Card.

The monthly limit for cashback is 300,000 won, with a maximum return of 30,000 won.

In Ganghwa-gun and Ongjin-gun, designated as population-declining areas, a 15% cashback will apply, allowing benefits of up to 45,000 won.

Incheon Chamber of Commerce and Incheon City Build Customized Bidding Information System for Local Companies

The Incheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced that, with support from the city budget, it has built a customized bidding information system for local companies.

The new system provides tailored information on various public bids such as goods, services, and construction projects for Incheon companies.

It also allows efficient searches with functions such as interest settings, keyword search, and notification services.

The Chamber will hold a joint briefing on public procurement consulting and the new system on August 1 at the main auditorium of its headquarters in Namdong National Industrial Complex.

Incheon City Museum Holds Seminar to Build New Model for Metropolitan Area Museums

The Incheon City Museum, scheduled to open in 2028, is expected to play a role as a latecomer in the metropolitan area museum sector by easing the concentration of museums in Seoul through updated trends and strategic operations.

On the 27th, the city held an ‘art expert research seminar’ at Bupyeong Art Center as part of the pre-opening project of the museum, to discuss its identity and direction.

At the seminar, participants proposed ways to strengthen Incheon’s status through network building among metropolitan museums and to use the advantages of advanced technology and trend-based planning as a latecomer.

In the discussion, participants also emphasized the need for role-sharing after the museum’s opening to address the issue of excessive concentration in Seoul.
