Incheon to Raise Waste Disposal Fees in Two Stages
Incheon Metropolitan City will raise fees for household and food waste brought into its regional waste treatment facilities in two stages, starting January 1, 2026, and again on January 1, 2027.
The city explained that without an increase, the current fee structure would lead to a deficit of about 24.9 billion won by 2030, as the self-sufficiency rate of the Songdo and Cheongna Resource Centers stood at only 94 percent as of 2024.
Incheon prepared the adjustment plan earlier this year through a cost analysis and consultation with district offices, and says the measure is aimed at ensuring stable operations and reducing overall waste generation.
Incheon Office of Education and World Writing Museum to Hold Hangeul Day Festival
The Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education and the National Museum of World Writing will jointly host a Hangeul Day festival on October 9 under the theme “With Hangeul, To the World.”
The event will take place at Songdo Central Park and the museum, marking the 579th anniversary of Hangeul’s creation.
The festival, part of the office’s “Read, Walk, Write” campaign, is designed as a participatory program highlighting the excellence and beauty of the Korean alphabet.
Incheon Office of Education to Recruit 684 Secondary School Teachers for 2026
The Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education has announced plans to hire 684 secondary school teachers for the 2026 academic year.
The recruitment includes 644 positions in 23 public school subjects, 2 positions at Incheon Maritime High School, and 38 positions across 15 subjects at 16 private school foundations.
Applications will be accepted online from September 13 to 17 through the teacher recruitment system.
Ganghwa-gun to Hold Policy Forum on National Ganghwa Goryeo Museum
Ganghwa-gun in Incheon will host a policy forum on October 14 at the county office under the theme, “Why Doesn’t Ganghwa, the Capital of Goryeo, Have a National Museum?”
Co-hosted with the Incheon Cultural Foundation, the forum will use the absence of a national museum in Ganghwa—a former Goryeo capital for 39 years—as the starting point for discussion.
Local residents will have the opportunity to join the conversation, sharing their expectations and ideas for establishing the National Ganghwa Goryeo Museum, while exploring ways to utilize the region’s cultural resources.
Bupyeong Youth Center Recognized as Outstanding Youth Institution
Bupyeong Youth Center in Incheon has been selected as an outstanding youth institution at the 11th Incheon Youth Leaders Conference, receiving the Incheon Metropolitan City Superintendent of Education Award.
Hosted by the Incheon Youth Activity Promotion Center, the annual event brings together leaders from youth-related organizations across the city to encourage collaboration, exchange, and recognition.
Among 76 participating youth institutions, six were named outstanding. Bupyeong Youth Center earned high marks for its participation in national youth policy projects and collaborative programs with the Promotion Center, securing the top award.
Jung-gu to Host Yeongjong Wind Path Riding Festa
Jung-gu in Incheon will hold the first-ever “Yeongjong Wind Path Riding Festa” on October 18 at Yeongjong Seaside Park, celebrating the arrival of the autumn festival season.
The event aims to promote Yeongjong International City as a rising cycling destination, including the 300-ri bicycle trail, and to encourage greater bicycle use among residents.
Riders will enjoy a parade-style route through the park, taking in scenic views of the Incheon coastline. Participants can join in either the general or family category, depending on their skill level.
Dong-gu to Designate Hospitals and Pharmacies Open During Chuseok Holiday
Dong-gu in Incheon will operate designated hospitals and pharmacies during the Chuseok holiday to maintain emergency medical services and minimize healthcare gaps.
From October 3 to 9, Incheon Medical Center and Incheon Baek Hospital, both emergency medical institutions, will run 24-hour emergency rooms. In addition, 86 clinics and 34 pharmacies will participate voluntarily as open facilities during the holiday.
