Incheon Revises Emergency Alert System to Include Heat Waves and School Closures
The City of Incheon has revised its disaster text alert system to provide residents with faster and more accurate information during emergencies.
Under the new guidelines, the official name for the alert system has been changed from "Emergency Disaster Text Messages" to “Emergency Alert System."
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education has also been added to the list of authorized agencies alongside the city, district governments, and local public corporations.
The city has removed less relevant alert categories, such as falling space debris and crude oil supply disruptions, and added new categories that directly affect daily life, including heavy snowfall, heat waves, cold waves, traffic control, and school closures.
The revised guidelines also allow the city to issue disaster alerts for major public issues not specifically covered by the regulations, such as public transportation strikes, following a review by the relevant department and approval from the vice mayor.
