Incheon Selected for Fisheries Deregulation Pilot Program for 3rd Year

Incheon Metropolitan City has been selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' pilot fisheries deregulation program for the third consecutive year, covering the period from July 2026 to June 2027.

The selection allows the city to continue two pilot programs without interruption which include adjusting the closed fishing season for Spanish mackerel, and easing mesh-size regulations for shrimp nets used in coastal fisheries.

Spanish mackerel are primarily caught off Incheon's coast in May, but the current closed season, which runs from May 1 to 31, overlaps with the peak fishing period, making commercial fishing virtually impossible.

To reflect local fishing conditions, the city has adjusted the closed season to run from April 10 to May 10, a move aimed at protecting fishery resources while expanding fishing opportunities for local fishermen.
