가까이에서 예술을 마주하고, 한층 깊이 문화를 경험한다. 색다른 즐거움을 선사하기도 하고 여유로운 휴식을 내어주기도 한다. 일상 속에서 문화예술을 즐길 수 있는 복합문화공간. 오래된 건물을 되살린 공간부터 음악에 흠뻑 빠질 수 있는 곳까지, 인천에 새롭게 문을 연 문화공간을 소개한다.

Open Port Salt Warehouse

개항장 소금창고

The Incheon Open Port Area is dotted with red-brick buildings from the modern era. Here, one historic building has been given new life as a cultural space. The Open Port Salt Warehouse is a renovated munhwa jutaek, a Westernstyle luxury residence built in 1939 by Japanese businessman Kono Seiichi. Today, it serves as an open space where visitors can explore the history of modern architecture and as an exhibition venue for local artists.

붉은 벽돌의 근대 건축물이 곳곳에 자리한 인천 개항장 일대. 이곳의 오래된 건축물 하나가 새로운 문화 공간으로 다시 재탄생했다. 1939년 일본인 사업가 코노 세이치가 지은 서양식 고급주택인 문화주택을 리모델링한 ‘개항장 소금창고’다. 근대 건축 역사를 살펴볼 수 있는 열린 공간이자 지역 예술가들을 위한 전시 공간으로 운영되고 있다.

Climb the stone steps, and the building gradually comes into view. The site consists of two buildings: a residence and a warehouse. The two-story wooden residence has architectural significance for its corner windows, a rare feature in munhwa jutaek of the time. Artworks displayed throughout the building add a distinctive atmosphere while preserving traces of its past. Behind it stands a twostory brick warehouse with a tiled roof, once used to store valuables. Its solid, weighty character offers a striking contrast to the residence. Outside, a green lawn provides a relaxing place to appreciate the beauty of the historic architecture.

석축 계단을 따라 오르면 건물의 모습이 서서히 드러난다. 공간은 주택과 창고, 2개 동으로 구성된다. 주택은 2층 목조 건물로, 당시 문화주택에서는 보기 드문 코너 창이 적용돼 건축사적 가치가 높다. 옛 건물의 흔적을 고스란히 간직한 공간 곳곳에는 예술 작품이 전시돼 독특한 분위기를 더한다. 뒤편 창고는 과거 귀중품 보관소로 사용되던 곳으로, 벽돌 기와지붕의 2층 건물이다. 주택과는 또 다른 묵직한 분위기가 인상적이다. 야외에는 푸른 잔디밭이 펼쳐져 있어 여유롭게 머물며 근대 건축의 아름다움을 감상하기 좋다.

Nearby are other cultural spaces, including Incheon Citizen’s House, Ieum 1977, and Jemulpo Club. A leisurely walk through these streets, each filled with distinctive architecture and stories, makes it easy to lose track of time.

개항장 소금창고 주변에는 인천시민愛집, 이음 1977, 제물포구락부 등 또 다른 문화 공간도 자리하고 있다. 저마다 다른 건축미와 이야기를 품은 거리를 천천히 걷다 보면 어느새 시간 가는 줄 모르게 된다.

A new space dedicated to music has opened in Bupyeong. 온전히 음악에 집중할 수 있는 공간이 부평에 생겼다.

Jieum is a cultural space where visitors can listen to, see, and experience music. Reflecting Bupyeong’s 20-year history and identity as a city of music, it serves as an open space for documenting and building the local music culture together. Its collection includes 5,985 LPs, CDs, and other music materials donated by the late Ko Seok-jun, offering the distinctive appeal of analog sound in the digital age. For older generations, it brings back memories, while younger visitors can discover a different kind of retro charm.

음악을 듣고 보고 경험할 수 있는 복합문화공간인 ‘지음’이다. 20년간 이어온 음악도시 부평의 역사와 정체성을 담은 곳으로, 지역의 음악 문화를 함께 기록하고 쌓아가는 열린 공간을 지향한다. 특히 고(故) 고석준 선생이 기증한 LP와 CD 등 5,985장의 음악 자료를 소장하고 있어 디지털 음원과는 또 다른 아날로그 선율의 매력을 느낄 수 있다. 중장년층에게는 추억을, 젊은 세대에게는 색다른 레트로 감성을 선사한다.

Located on the third floor of the Bupyeong Arts Center, Jieum opens into a spacious listening hall where visitors can enjoy music together. Its hi-fi audio system reproduces sound close to the original recording, capturing even subtle details with clarity. A large screen and comfortable seating provide a relaxed listening experience, while guided listening programs with expert commentary are also held here.

부평아트센터 3층, 지음의 문을 열고 들어서면 가장 넓은 면적 넓은 청음홀이 펼쳐진다. 여러 사람이 함께 음악을 감상할 수 있는 공간으로, 원음에 가까운 소리를 재현해 섬세한 음향까지 풍부하게 전달하는 하이파이 오디오 시스템을 갖췄다. 대형 스크린과 편안한 의자도 마련돼 있어 여유롭게 음악을 즐기기 좋다. 전문가의 해설과 함께 음악을 감상하는 청음 프로그램도 이곳에서 진행된다.

Individual listening stations for one or two people offer a more private experience. Equipped with turntables and headphones, they allow visitors to focus on music while enjoying the view outside. Jieum also features an exhibition space and Café Dreamboat, where visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee along with the music.

혼자 또는 둘이 음악을 즐길 수 있는 청음석도 특별하다. 턴테이블과 헤드폰이 마련돼 있어 방해받지 않고 창밖 풍경을 바라보며 음악에 집중할 수 있다. 이 밖에도 전시 공간이 마련돼 있으며, 한편에는 카페 드림보트가 운영돼 음악과 함께 향긋한 커피 한 잔을 즐길 수 있다.
