Incheon to Update Place Names on Popular Map Apps

Incheon Metropolitan City is working to update place-name information on widely used map applications, including Naver Map, KakaoMap and T Map.

Since June, the city has reviewed the names of 492 locations, including parks and intersections, on major private map apps and requested changes for misnomers.

So far, about 92 percent of the requested changes have been reflected.

Building on these results, the city will now launch a more comprehensive effort to change place names that do not reflect current conditions and cause confusion among residents.

The city plans to identify locations requiring updates in cooperation with local district and county governments and establish or change place names following review by the Geographical Names Committee.

Concerns Grow Over CCTV Blind Spots in Newly Launched Districts

The newly launched Geomdan-gu and Yeongjong-gu in Incheon have more blind spots in crime-prevention CCTV coverage than other districts in the city, raising concerns over potential gaps in public safety.

According to Incheon Metropolitan City and other sources, as of July 1, Geomdan-gu had 995 crime-prevention CCTVs, while Yeongjong-gu had 1,006.

Of Incheon's 11 districts and counties, only Ongjin-gun, which consists entirely of islands, had fewer CCTVs, with 437.

By comparison, Michuhol-gu had the largest number with 2,689, followed by Namdong-gu with 2,640, Yeonsu-gu with 2,569 and Bupyeong-gu with 2,311

Take Precautions Against Infectious Diseases While Traveling Abroad

As the summer vacation season gets into full swing, Incheon Metropolitan City is urging residents to check infectious disease information in their destination countries before traveling abroad and strictly follow preventive measures during their travels to prevent the influx of infectious diseases resulting from the increase in overseas travelers.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) operates the “Overseas Infectious Disease NOW” website and an “Overseas Travel Infectious Disease Map” to help travelers easily check disease risks by destination.

The services provide information on major infectious diseases, preventive measures and recommended vaccinations for each country.

Residents planning overseas travel are advised to check disease outbreaks and prevention guidelines for their destination through the KDCA's “Overseas Infectious Disease NOW” website before departure and consult a medical professional about any necessary vaccinations or preventive medication.
