7 Golden Rules to keep a healthy mind under the COVID-19 pandemic

Date
2020-11-24

1. Accept the changes to your day-to-day life caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

- Feeling tired, depressed, or anxious due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is part of a normal coping process that will eventually help you adapt to changes brought on by COVID-19.

2. Don’t worry too much! All you need to do is understand and follow the quarantine/social distancing guidelines.

- Too much information or information from an unverified source can increase anxiety and stress.  Pay attention to the quarantine/social distancing guidelines, and make sure to follow them over the course of your day.

3. Build routines and habits.

- Building routines and habits to follow every day can boost the immunity of both your mind and body.  In particular, sleeping and waking up at a fixed time is very important for maintaining sound mental health.

4. Create a hobby or activity you can enjoy.

- Taking your time to collect your thoughts and stepping away from the stresses of daily life can build up the energy reserve you need when things start to weigh heavily on your heart later.

5. Stretch, walk, or exercise to move your body regularly.

- Proper physical activity also helps you maintain sound mental health. Keep your mind healthy by keeping your body healthy.  So long as you comply with the quarantine/social distancing guidelines (e.g. wearing a mask) and exercise outside, you will feel much more refreshed than before.

6. Connect with the people around you, including family and friends.

- COVID-19 has affected everyone, without exception.  Use video calls and e-mails to communicate with family, friends, coworkers, and other people you can enjoy a sincere conversation.

7. Don’t hesitate to ask for help.

- Take good care of your physical and mental health, and don’t hesitate to seek professional help when you need it.
