The 56th Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meeting

Seoul in 1970, Jeju in 2004, and now, it’s time for Incheon.

To everyone who has come for the 56th Asian Development Bank Annual Meeting,

along with the 3 million citizens of Incheon, we warmly welcome you.

Gathering with Asia’s top financial leaders from over 60 countries and around 5,000 participants

for the largest annual meeting held 3 years after the pandemic is deeply meaningful and an honor.

To Vice President Shixin Chen of ADB, who worked hard for the successful annual meeting, 

and all the officials, including Deputy Minister Choi Sang Dae from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, 

I express my deepest gratitude for your hard work.

The ADB Annual Meeting is a global event where all of Asia unites to promote economic growth.

Although Asia is expected to see an economic growth rate of 4.8% this year,

we must be prepared for the turning point of a global economic slowdown,

political uncertainty, and climate change.

The power and connection to turn this inflection point into an opportunity lies within all of us.

Over the years, ADB has rescued hundreds of millions from poverty during crises,

leading massive global welfare enhancements.

And once again, 

we are gathered here to transform a crisis into a magnificent opportunity.

Under the goal of "Rebounding Asia's Inclusive Growth,"

we must continue our collaboration for the future and prosperity of Asia.

Incheon and ADB share a deep cooperative history spanning over half a century.

Thanks to ADB's assistance, the construction of the nation’s first expressway, the Gyeongin Expressway,

became a pivotal player in the industrialization of the Republic of Korea.

The Incheon Port renovation project is now preparing to stand tall

as the central pillar for massive future economic projects in the Republic of Korea.

Going forward, Incheon, with its half-century-long relationship,

will remain a lifelong companion for the world-class Asian continent as it takes another leap.

If we stand together,

Asia will achieve astonishing transformations, and imagination will become reality.

To everyone who has traveled far to attend today's assembly and has graced this occasion,

I once again extend my heartfelt gratitude.
