Incheon launches smart tourism platform “Incheon Easy” with reservation and restaurant information services

The Incheon Metropolitan City Government and Incheon Tourism Organization launched the new “Incheon Easy Smart Tourism Platform.” The new app allows users to enjoy the Incheon Open Port area smarter and more conveniently than ever with one centralized app.

In September 2020, Incheon was selected as Korea’s first “smart tourism” city. Incheon Easy is an ICT-based smart travel application developed by a consortium of nine public and private vendors, including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Tourism Organization, Jung-gu Office, and Incheon Tourism Organization, as part of the smart tourism city project. The app is currently available for free in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Personalized artificial intelligence-powered recommendations

Using the artificial intelligence-powered recommendation service available on the Incheon Easy app,you can create a personalized “travel pass” recommendation based on your travel preferences, specific routes, desired date, and type of travel companion by answering a simple questionnaire. Of course, you can tweak your travel pass according to the parameters you need.

Once your travel pass is created, the Incheon Easy app recommends a customized travel guide book and optimal route information. You check up on nearby restaurants, cafes, tourist destinations, and accommodations on a map, and enjoy smart convenience services (e.g. audio guide, coupon and payment service, luggage storage, mobility, etc.) that are available for each location. Simply put, the Incheon Easy app is a one-stop, personalized travel assistant.

Every convenience service imaginable available through one centralized app

With the Incheon Easy app, you can keep track of the weather or traffic conditions, and you can use the “smart order” service to skip the line at a popular restaurant.

If you are a foreigner, you can make reservations (requests) for various mobility options without any hassles, and you can also check your luggage in to enjoy your day without having to carry heavy bags around. If you encounter any issues during your visit to Incheon, you can use the real-time multi lingual text chat service to get the assistance you need.

Free public Wi-Fi service
For the convenience of local citizens and tourists visiting the Open Port area, the Incheon Metropolitan City Government installed more than 60 public Wi-Fi hot spots. With these hot spots, users can enjoy AR/VR content and audio guides available on the Incheon Easy app for free and without drawing data from their own data plans.

Time travel to the 19th century

At the Open Port area, you can enjoy a unique time travel program using smart technologies such as Augmented Reality(AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). Near the Open Port area, including places like the Daebul Hotel Museum, Incheon Open Port Modern Architecture Museum, and Hanjungwon, you can go on a tour led by AR docents. These AR docents (created to mimic locals who used to live in the Open Port area in the late-19th century and early-20th century) can help you learn about the history of each landmark in the Open Port area in a much more engaging and entertaining way.

At Jemulpo Gurakbu and Jjajangmyeon Museum, you can enjoy more immersive time travel content using the Incheon Easy app and the VR devices available on-site. Meanwhile, at the Freedom Park Observatory, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Open Port area as it was during the 19th century.

Stimulating data-driven tourism

User tourism data collected through the Incheon Easy and public Wi-Fi network installed around the Open Port will be stored in the Incheon Smart Tourism City platform. Incheon plans to refine and integrate the stored data to help market its tourism programs and improve local infrastructures moving forward.
