Incheon Metropolitan City secures 1 billion won in government funds... Built 360°VR in Songdo Convensia
Incheon Metropolitan City has taken a step forward as an international MICE city as it has been selected for the fourth consecutive year in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s International Conference Complex Revitalization Competition.
Incheon Metropolitan City and Incheon Tourism Organization were selected for the competition of ‘2022 International Conference Complex Revitalization Support Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and secured 510 million won in government funds.

Since the Songdo International Conference Complex was designated for the first time in the country in 2018(2.98 ㎢ in the area of Songdo Convensia), Incheon Metropolitan City has been selected for the 4th consecutive year from 2019 to this year in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's International Conference Complex Revitalization Project.
The International Conference Complex is designated for the purpose of strengthening the brand and competitiveness of the host city by integrating related facilities such as hotels, shopping, and performances centering on the convention center, and it is located in five locations, such as Incheon, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, and Goyang, Gyeonggi.
Incheon has invested 2.8 billion won inthis project until last year, solidifying its position as an international MICE city.
In particular, last year, as a part ofthe meeting technology support project that reflected the MICE trend, a virtual studio, 3D online conference platform, and hologram theater were built, and in addition, digital contents were produced and supported for various events suchas the 'UNESCO International Conference on Learning Cities' in November of last year.
▲ This year, the Songdo International Conference Complex plans to secure a budget of 1.20 billion won, including the national budget, to develop programs linked to local culture and tourism resources, and to build a 360° VR specialized conference facility in Songdo Convensia .
And the city made efforts to strengthen competitiveness in connection with integrated facilities such as convention centers, hotels, and shopping malls in the complex.
Incheon held a boom-up event using content widely known to the public, such as the squid game, and has been seeking ways to cooperate, such as supporting quarantine at the MICE event held in the Complex in order to overcome COVID-19.
This year, the city plans to secure a budget of 1.20 billion won including the national budget to promote ▲Songdo International Conference Complex brand development and joint marketing ▲ Creating a smart tourism environment for MICE organizers and participants ▲ Fostering MICE businesses within the complex and establishing a base for nurturing talents ▲ Development of programs linked to local culture and tourism resources, and ▲ Establishment of 360° VR specialized conference facility in Songdo Convensia.
The city established the ‘5-year plan for fostering and promoting the Incheon International Conference Complex’ in 2018, and has been promoting the complex project with a focus on the creation of the MICE industry ecosystem and infrastructure construction.
Based on the experience of international MICE and the establishment of an international complex, it is also planning to spur the preparations to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)summit in Korea, which is confirmed to be held in 2025, in Incheon.
