Incheon Metropolitan City secures 1 billion won in government funds...Built 360°VR in Songdo Convensia
Incheon Metropolitan City has taken astep forward as an international MICE city as it has been selected for thefourth consecutive year in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’sInternational Conference Complex Revitalization Competition.
Incheon Metropolitan City and IncheonTourism Organization were selected for the competition of ‘2022 InternationalConference Complex Revitalization Support Project’ hosted by the Ministry ofCulture, Sports and Tourism, and secured 510 million won in government funds.

Since the Songdo InternationalConference Complex was designated for the first time in the country in 2018(2.98 ㎢ in the area of Songdo Convensia), Incheon MetropolitanCity has been selected for the 4th consecutive year from 2019 to this year inthe Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's International Conference ComplexRevitalization Project.
The International Conference Complex isdesignated for the purpose of strengthening the brand and competitiveness ofthe host city by integrating related facilities such as hotels, shopping, andperformances centering on the convention center, and it is located in fivelocations, such as Incheon, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, and Goyang, Gyeonggi.
Incheon has invested 2.8 billion won inthis project until last year, solidifying its position as an international MICEcity.
In particular, last year, as a part ofthe meeting technology support project that reflected the MICE trend, a virtualstudio, 3D online conference platform, and hologram theater were built, and inaddition, digital contents were produced and supported for various events suchas the 'UNESCO International Conference on Learning Cities' in November of lastyear.
▲ This year, theSongdo International Conference Complex plans to secure a budget of 1.20billion won, including the national budget, to develop programs linked to localculture and tourism resources, and to build a 360° VRspecialized conference facility in Songdo Convensia .
And the city made efforts to strengthencompetitiveness in connection with integrated facilities such as conventioncenters, hotels, and shopping malls in the complex.
Incheon held a boom-up event usingcontent widely known to the public, such as the squid game, and has beenseeking ways to cooperate, such as supporting quarantine at the MICE event heldin the Complex in order to overcome COVID-19.
This year, the city plans to secure abudget of 1.20 billion won including the national budget to promote ▲SongdoInternational Conference Complex brand development and joint marketing▲Creating a smart tourism environment for MICE organizers and participants▲Fostering MICE businesses within the complex and establishing a base fornurturing talents ▲Development of programs linked to local culture and tourismresources, and ▲Establishment of 360° VR specialized conference facility inSongdo Convensia.
The city established the ‘5-year planfor fostering and promoting the Incheon International Conference Complex’ in2018, and has been promoting the complex project with a focus on the creationof the MICE industry ecosystem and infrastructure construction.
Based on the experience of internationalMICE and the establishment of an international complex, it is also planning tospur the preparations to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)summit in Korea, which is confirmed to be held in 2025, in Incheon.
