If your mind and body needs a break from the ongoing doom and gloom of the pandemic, visit Incheon for a“wellness” trip.

The Incheon Metropolitan City Government and the Incheon Tourism Organization (ITO) plan on identifying and developing new wellness tourist destinations, such as eco-friendly, vegan, and local venues, and promoting wellness tourism programs across Incheon to revitalize the city’s wellness tourism initiative, which is now entering its third year.

Wellness refers to an ideal state in which a person’s physical, mental, and social well-being is in perfect harmony.

In February 2023, Incheon and ITO will offer customized consulting services aimed at creating new programs at wellness tourist destinations, and also recruiting new wellness tourist attractions to make sure the city is ready to serve a large influx of tourists going forward.

The Metropolitan Government also plans to open a new wellness tourism expert program, and expand the wellness tourism industry ecosystem by establishing a tourism cluster with robust ties to local universities, related organizations, and partner organizations that can help the industry interface with the medical tourism industry.

Meanwhile, last year, Incheon and ITO chose five new wellness tourist destinations (including one reserve destination), and along with the ten they selected in 2021, developed customized wellness content for each tourist destination with help from experts, and carried out a collaborative project between the chosen wellness tourist destinations. A total of 70,543 people used wellness programs at the 15 wellness tourist destinations in Incheon thanks to both online and in-person promotional marketing offers.

Moreover, Incheon hosted a7-week “Incheon Wellness Tourism Academy” program. 62 people working or looking for work in the tourism field, including wellness tourism, signed up for the program, of which 44 people managed to complete the course. Various projects were also promoted to nurture professionals in wellness tourism and establish networks, such as a quarterly wellness tourism council and benchmarking studies to learn from leading tourist destinations.
