On Apr. 2, the Incheon Metropolitan Government hosted a task force meeting in the large meeting room at City Hall attended by 43 people including department heads of major organizations and five corporations, as well as leaders at several levels of city government, to discuss support for hosting the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

This task force meeting was held to discuss measures for all levels of city government and related institutions to dedicate their full strength to preparing application materials to submit for the APEC forum host city selection process, early preparations for spot inspections, and creating a supportive atmosphere among all residents for hosting the event.

The meeting, held in an open discussion format, involved discussions on the APEC host city selection process, measures to dedicate all efforts, and guidance on cooperation from institutions and departments.

Ahead of the host city selection, Incheon plans to strengthen various promotions for the campaign and hold events for each related institution to attract interest in the forum and cultivate citizens’ aspirations for hosting the event. In addition, the scheduled spot inspections and presentation briefing in May are planned to distinguish Incheon as a city meticulously prepared to hold the event.

Hwang Hyo-jin, Vice Mayor for Global City Affairs, said, “Our city began full-scale activities to attract this event in Dec. 2022 by setting up the committee to stay one step ahead of other cities vying to host the event. The formation and operation of the task force to support the hosting of APEC, collecting one million signatures, holding meetings with diplomatic offices, and concluding an MOU with the Incheon MICE Alliance further demonstrate the multilateral and omnidirectional nature of our hectic efforts that have brought us to the halfway point of bringing APEC to Incheon. Now, given all these efforts, we need to give everything we have to get us the rest of the way across the finish line to host the APEC forum in 2025.”

Meanwhile, according to the public recruitment for the 2025 APEC forum host city announced on Mar. 27 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, applications are due by Apr. 19, where candidate cities will each undergo spot inspections and hold briefings with their plans for attracting the event in May, followed by selection of the host city sometime in June.
