A TRIP IN DAILY LIFE TO ENJOY IN SONGDO
늦가을 송도에서 즐기는 일상 속 여행
On a Thursday at the end of November,
when the cold wind made us adjust our clothing, Songdo, a park in the city center, somewhat resembled a quiet country village in late fall, with half the leaves turned red.
And there was someone slowly walking inside that scenery.
It’s Noriko Homma, a member of the Incheon Global Promotion Team, from Japan.
Looking around, she said, “Seoul is already preparing for winter, but there is still fall here.”
Incheon is on a similar latitude as Tokyo, but the late fall in Songdo seemed to be softer and slower.
11월말, 서늘한 바람이 옷깃을 여미게 하던 어느 목요일.
낙엽이 반쯤 물든 늦가을의 송도는 도심 속 공원이면서도 어딘가 조용한 시골 마을의 정적을 닮아 있었다.
그 풍경 속을 천천히 걷고 있던 한 사람, 일본에서 온 인천시 글로벌 홍보단원 홈마 노리코씨.
그녀는 주변을 둘러보다 이렇게 말했다.
“서울은 이미 겨울 준비 중이던데, 여긴 아직 가을이 머물고 있네요.”
도쿄와 비슷한 위도에 위치한 인천, 그러나 그녀의 눈에 비친 송도의 늦가을은 조금 더 부드럽고 조금 더 천천히 흐르고 있는 듯했다.

A Quiet yet Vibrant Scene at Central Park
고요하지만 활기찬 센트럴파크의 풍경
The morning at Songdo Central Park was quiet, yet it was imbued with a strange vitality.
On a weekday morning, the park was peaceful yet somewhat vibrant as people began their day in various ways—runners listening to music while jogging, residents leisurely walking their dogs, and foreigners relaxing on benches with a cup of coffee, soaking in the late fall.
The most interesting scene was a couple gliding slowly across a canal, raining with maple leaves on a moonboat. When the late-fall sunlight sparkled on the water, and laughter spread along the wind, Noriko, taking in this tranquil scene, said, “It’s so relaxed. It’s a city like Seoul but feels very different.”
The “Day in Songdo” she chose wasn’t about visiting popular attractions but rather experiencing the true essence of a city that lies somewhere between everyday life and a trip.
송도 센트럴파크의 아침은 고요하면서도 묘한 생기를 품고 있었다.
평일 오전, 공원은 한산했지만 그 속에는 각자의 방식으로 하루를 여는 사람들로 은은하게 채워져 있었다. 음악을 들으며 조깅을 즐기는 러너들, 반려견을 품에 안고 여유롭게 산책을 즐기는 시민들, 그리고 벤치에 앉아 커피 한 잔으로 늦가을을 음미하는 외국인 거주자들.
가장 인상적인 장면은 단풍 잎이 흩날리는 수로 위, 문보트를 타고 천천히 미끄러지듯 나아가던 연인들이었다. 가을 햇살이 물 위를 반짝이고, 웃음소리가 바람을 타고 흐르던 순간.
노리코 씨는 이 조용한 풍경을 천천히 눈에 담으며 말했다.
“정말 여유롭네요. 같은 도시인데도 서울과는 확실히 다르게 느껴져요.”
그녀가 선택한 ‘송도의 하루’는 자극적인 관광지보다 일상과 여행 사이 어딘가에 머무는 도시의 진짜 얼굴을 보여주는 경험이었다.
Memories Embedded in Letters - The National Museum of World Writing Systems
문자에 깃든 기억- 국립세계문자박물관
The National Museum of World Writing Systems, situated along Central Park, showcases the history and evolution of writing systems worldwide, including Hangeul, Latin, and Egyptian hieroglyphs. In the center of the exhibit hall, Noriko quietly remarked while observing the displays, “I was born on October 9, Hangeul Day, so I feel very connected to these letters.” She lingered for a moment, truly appreciating the exhibits, especially the ancient writing systems. Her deep interest in understanding people and history through language, beyond just the scripts, was clear. For Noriko, the writing system was more than a communication tool; it was a heartfelt, connecting medium that tied identity and emotions.
센트럴파크 따라 걸어가면 만날 수 있는 국립세계문자박물관. 이곳은 한글을 비롯해 라틴 문자, 이집트 상형문자 등 전 세계 문자 역사와 흐름을 조망할 수 있는 공간이다. 전시관 한가운데에서 노리코 씨는 조용히 전시물을 바라보며 말했다.
“제가 10월9일, 한글날에 태어났어요. 그래서 문자를 보면 더 친근하게 느껴져요.”
그녀는 특히 고대 문자가 전시된 공간에서 오랫동안 발걸음을 멈추고 깊은 감상을 이어갔다.단지 문자 그 자체가 아니라, 언어를 통해 시대와 사람을 이해하려는 마음이 고스란히 전해졌다. 노리코 씨에게 문자는 단순한 소통의 수단을 넘어 정체성과 감성을 이어주는 따뜻한 매개였다.
Hangang Ramen: The “Romance of Korea” Not Found in Japan
한강라면, 일본에는 없는 ‘한국의 낭만’
After walking through Central Park, Noriko went to a nearby convenience store to try what she had been most excited about: Hangang Ramen. She smiled as she stood in front of the ramen vending machine, saying, “It’s a bit pricey for ramen,” but her face grew serious when the water started boiling. “This kind of outdoor ramen experience isn’t common in Japan. It’s so new and fascinating to eat ramen outside.”
As she took her first bite while looking at the steaming bowl of ramen, she exclaimed, “It’s strangely delicious. It tastes completely different from the ramen I have at home.”
Even with the same ingredients, the setting and atmosphere can create a completely different experience. A bowl of ramen enjoyed on a breezy park bench left a lasting impression on her, capturing the simple romance of Korea.
센트럴파크 산책을 마친 후, 노리코씨는 인근 편의점으로 향했다. 그녀가 가장 기대하던 ‘한강라면’ 체험을 위해서다. 라면 자판기 앞에서 “라면치고는 가격이 좀 있네요”라며 웃던 그녀는물이 끓기 시작하자 금세 진지한 표정으로 바뀌었다.
“이런 문화는 일본엔 정말 없어요. 야외에서 라면을 끓여 먹는다는 게 너무 새롭고 재미있어요.”
김이 모락모락 피어오른 라면을 바라보며 첫 젓가락을 입에 넣는 순간 그녀는 감탄했다.
“이상하리만큼 맛있어요. 집에서 먹는 라면과는 전혀 다른 맛이에요.”
같은 재료라도 장소와 분위기가 더해지면 전혀 다른 경험이 되는 법. 바람 부는 공원 벤치에 앉아 먹는 라면 한 그릇은 그녀에게 한국 특유의 소박한 낭만으로 깊이 각인되었다.
A City Remembered by Taste - Songdo's Seafood
맛으로 기억되는 도시, 송도의 바다 밥상
When you visit Songdo, you definitely should try the seafood.
Noriko expressed her strong love for fresh seafood as one of the charms of Incheon.
Saying she fell in love with Korean-style seafood dishes despite being Japanese, she chose Incheon's proximity to the sea as the biggest advantage.
It’s prepared in incredibly diverse ways, and it’s fresh. The fact that you can enjoy a variety of seafood dishes each season, like marinated crab, steamed clams, and rice topped with raw fish, is a unique charm of Incheon.
The gourmet experiences she enjoyed in Incheon were about more than just the flavors; they were deeply rooted in seasonal and regional sentiment.
“송도에 오면 꼭 해산물을 드셔보세요.”
노리코 씨는 인천의 매력중에서도 신선한 해산물 요리에 대한 깊은 애정을 드러냈다.
일본인임에도 한국식 해산물 요리에 푹 빠졌다는 그녀는 인천이 바다와 맞닿은 도시라는 점을 큰 장점으로 꼽았다.
“신선도는 물론이고, 조리 방식도 정말 다양해요. 게장, 조개찜, 회덥밥 등 계절에 따라 다른 해산물을 맛볼 수 있다는 게 인천만의 매력이에요.”
그녀가 인천에서 경험한 미식은 단순히 맛이 아닌, 계절과 지역의 정서가 담긴 살아 있는 경험이었다.
New Cities in Incheon: Going Foward to the Future
미래를 향해 걷는 도시, 인천의 신도시들
Noriko expressed her hope to include content on the Incheon Free Economic Zone, which links Songdo, Cheongna, and Yeongjong. She was captivated by the potential and prospects of these emerging cities, which remain less known in Japan compared to Seoul.
"This is a future-focused city. While exploring it, I feel like I'm growing alongside the city, not just witnessing its changes." Noriko said she wants to present Incheon not merely as a tourist spot, but as a "city where we can grow together."
노리코씨 앞으로 송도, 청라 영종을 잇는 인천경제자유구역에 대한 콘텐츠를 소개하고 싶다고 한다. 일본에서는 서울에 비해 아직 널리 알려지지 않은 이 신도시들이 가진 잠재력과 가능성이 그녀의 관심을 사로 잡았다.
“이곳은 미래지향적 도시에요. 취재를 하다 보면 도시의 변화뿐 아니라 제 자신도 함께 성장하는 느낌이에요.” 노리코씨는 단순한 여행지가 아니라 ‘함께 성장할 수 있는 도시’로서의 인천을 소개하고 싶다고 말했다.
A Day in Songdo, A Warm Memory to Remain Long
송도의 하루, 오랫동안 남을 따뜻한 기억
Around noon, as the late-fall sunlight gently filled the air, the promenades across Central Park remained calm and warm. Noriko slowly came to a stop and said with a quiet smile, “At first, I thought it was just a quiet new city. But the next day, Songdo became the ‘city I want to live in.’”
To Noriko, Songdo felt more like a part of her daily routine than just a trip. It was a chance to see the city through small but meaningful moments unique to Korea, giving her a break from her busy schedule and helping her relax.
Like the scenery of the sunlight-filled late-fall noon, her ‘Day in Songdo’ lingered quietly but warmly in her heart.
늦가을 햇살이 부드럽게 퍼지던 정오 무렵, 센트럴파크의 산책길은 여전히 고요하고 따뜻했다. 노리코씨는 천천히 걸음을 멈추고, 잔잔한 미소를 지으며 말했다.
“처음에는 그냥 조용한 신도시인줄 알았어요. 그런데 하루를 보내고 보니, 송도는 ‘살고싶은 도시’가 되어버렸네요.”
그녀에게 송도는 여행보다 일상에 가까운 도시였다. 바쁜 일상에서 잠시 벗어나 여유를 느끼고 한국에서만 체험할 수 있는 작지만 특별한 순간들은 차곡차곡 쌓아가며 도시를 새롭게 바라본 시간이었다.
그렇게 그녀의 ‘송도의 하루’는 햇살 가득한 늦가을 정오의 풍경처럼, 조용하지만 따뜻한 기억으로 오래도록 마음에 남았다.
