International Peace City Proclamation Ceremony
“An Alliance of Global Cities Dedicated to Peace”
Incheon City has officially joined the International Cities of Peace.
74 years ago, Incheon played a crucial role in protecting peace,
freedom, and democracy, exemplifying the spirit of humanitarianism.
On September 15, 1950, the Incheon Landing Operation,
involving 261 ships and over 75,000 Allied troops,
successfully recaptured Incheon, reclaimed Seoul,
and changed the course of the Korean War,
reshaping the history of the Republic of Korea.
Today, on the 74th anniversary of the Incheon Landing Operation,
we honor the dedication of our South Korean Armed Forces and UN forces.
These young individuals, many of whom had never set foot in this country before,
united under the banner of the Allied Forces,
driven by a shared commitment to defending peace and freedom.
A landing marker stone now stands in Incheon, commemorating that historic day.
It serves as a monument to the preservation of world peace.
This year, Incheon officially became a member of the International Cities of Peace,
continuing the legacy of the Incheon Landing Operation.
The International Cities of Peace is a United Nations-approved
non-governmental organization representing a global alliance
of cities committed to peace.
As the 418th member of this community,
Incheon will lead the way in upholding the universal values of peace and freedom.
Carrying Forward a Great Legacy with Unwavering Commitment!
