○ The Sri Lankan national archery team, this year’s first recipient of the “OCA-Incheon Vision 2014 Program,”successfully completed their field training in Incheon. The OCA program, an initiative that carries on the spirit and legacy of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, supports Asian countries with modest athletic capabilities.
○ Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok) announced that the seven members of the Sri Lankan national archery team arrived in Incheon on April 7 and promptly embarked on their three-week invitational training program in Incheon. Upon completing the program, the delegation returned home after attending a completion ceremony.
○ Mansubuk Middle School archery team coach Lee Gyeong-sook joined the Sri Lankan team as the Korean training partner for the program. The evaluation of each athlete’s proficiency revealed that all participants achieved a marked improvement in their skills thanks to intensive technical training sessions.
○ Also, the athletic performance enhancement program at the POP Sports Science Center (CEO Kim Jong-soon) inside Seonhak Hockey Stadium, which offered expert sports training and consulting, also proved to be a popular feature of the program among the athletes.
○ Additionally, the Hwagak handicrafts experience activity at the Incheon Metropolitan City Intangible Cultural Assets Learning Education Center gave the Sri Lankan delegation a chance to enjoy the sophistication and beauty of Korea. The athletes had a meaningful opportunity to make special souvenirs including photo frames that can hold Polaroid pictures and they also experienced Korean traditional houses to get a closer feel for Korea.
○ Sri Lankan national archery team captain Lakmal Chaminda Rajasinghe said, "I am very grateful to Incheon for giving us the opportunity to do a field training session in Korea, which is a powerhouse in the sport of archery. We’d like to come back to Incheon one day.“
○ An official with the Incheon Metropolitan City government said, "The Vision 2014 Program has received plenty of acclaim from the international sports community and has also been a bridge connecting Asian countries and Incheon.” The official added, “We will continue to strive for a more balanced development of sports in Asia and promote the brand value of Incheon city.”
