Construction of Song-do Zone 11, Pharmaceutical Bio Commercialization Center·Bioprocessing Research & Training Center

The Incheon Free Economic Zone is  spurring the 2nd stage creation of the Yonsei University International Campus,
where Song-do Severance Hospital and Yonsei Science Park will be built.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone has recently held the 3rd working-level meeting this year for the 'Yonsei
University International Campus 2nd Stage Creation (Science Park)’ at the Yonsei University International Campus in Songdo International City.

In this meeting, details of support for the construction of Songdo Severance Hospital and the creation of Yonsei Science Park were discussed, as Songdo Global Complex Development Co., Ltd. and GS E&C consortium signed a business agreement at the end of June to build apartment houses and officetels on the site for profit in Songdo District 11 in relation to the 2nd stage
creation of the Yonsei University International Campus.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone proposed a detailed implementation plan (draft) for each schedule to Yonsei University
so that the Songdo Severance Hospital construction and Yonsei Science Park creation project could be carried out in normal.

Yonsei University is intending to  proceed the construction of the Songdo Severance Hospital in normal with the goal of starting construction in 2022 and complete construction in 2026 in accordance with the business agreement signed with Incheon Metropolitan City and the detailed schedule, such as the input of development profits for the Yonsei University International Campus 2nd stage creation, will be prepared and discussed later.

In addition, Yonsei University plans to promote the construction of 'faculty and researcher dormitory' this year to build the Pharmaceutical Bio Commercialization Center and Bioprocessing Research & Training Center, which are the first projects to create Yonsei Science Park, and to attract 1,000 researchers, including graduate students, and requested cooperation from the Incheon Free Economic Zone so that the administrative procedures could be expedited.

Eom Tae-ho, head of the YSP Strategic Planning Team at Yonsei University, said, “As Songdo has recently been confirmed as a candidate for K-Bio Lab Hub, it will exert a great synergy effect in the creation of Songdo Severance Hospital and Yonsei Science Park", and he said, “We will strive to build an innovative cluster based on the Yonsei University International Campus".

The Yonsei University International  Campus 2nd Stage Creation project utilizes a total of 387,777㎡, including the undeveloped land (246,486㎡) in the Yonsei University International Campus in Songdo District 7 and the educational research site in District 11 (141,291㎡). And △ construction of a research-oriented hospital with more than 500 beds and △creation of Yonsei Science Park, which consists of six zones including convergence research, start-up venture, convergence education, future innovation, industry-university cooperation, and communication innovation, are the main goals.
