87.79km more of Incheon railway network

8 route change plans reflected,
Incheon Subway Line 2 Geomdan Extension, Songdo Tram, etc. are subject to extension
The urban rail network construction plan newly prepared by Incheon received final approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and full-scale implementation became possible.
The city of Incheon announced that it had received approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 18th after deliberation by the National Transportation Committee on the 'Incheon Urban Railroad Network Construction Plan Change (draft)', which reflected 8 routes including the Bupyeong Coastal Pier Line.
When all the routes reflected in the change to the urban rail network construction plan are built, it is expected that the transportation convenience of residents will greatly improve due to an increase in the urban rail transport share.

There are eight routes reflected in the change plan, with a total length of 87.79 km and a total of 2.862 trillion won will be invested.
The routes reflected in the change plan include △ Incheon Subway Line 2 Geomdan Extension △ Bupyeong Coastal Pier Line △ Songdo Tram △ Incheon Subway Line 2 Nonhyeon Extension △ Juan Songdo Line △ Yeongjong Tram △ Incheon Subway Line 1 Songdo Section 8 Extension △ Jemulpo Coastal Pier Line, and a total of 2.862 trillion won is planned to be invested in the construction of the 87.79km-long railway network.

This change plan reflects the results of a feasibility review conducted every 5 years in accordance with Article 5 of the ‘Urban Railroad Act’ for the existing plan established in 2016, and it shows the changed socio-economic conditions, and focuses on expanding the benefits of the Great Train Express (GTX) line B, and supporting the regeneration of the original downtown.
After applying for approval to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in December 2020, it was approved after reviewing the adequacy of specialized research institutes such as the Korea Railroad Research Institute, consultation with related administrative agencies, coordination and review by the Urban Transport Policy Working Committee, and deliberation by the National Transport Committee.
Among the eight routes, three lines, including the Incheon Subway Line 2 Geomdan Extension, Bupyeong Coastal Pier Line, and Songdo Tram, plan to conduct a preliminary feasibility study service to apply for a preliminary feasibility study within this year.
According to the results of the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the 'Incheon Subway Line 2 Geomdan Extension' was included in the 'Incheon Subway Line 2 Goyang Extension' reflected in the 4th National Railway Network Construction Plan and its preliminary feasibility study service started on the 16th of last month jointly with Gyeonggi-do, the ‘Bupyeong Coastal Pier Line’ also started a feasibility study service on November 4 of last year, and the ‘Songdo Tram’ is scheduled to start the service in the first half of 2022.
