Phase 1-1 is currently in the process of completing the overall civil engineering work, including installation of waterfront facilities and landscaping work. When the construction is completed, it is expected that the water quality of the reservoir will be improved through seawater circulation through the sluice gate, and flooding will be prevented by blocking seawater inflow and securing storage capacity during heavy rain.
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to create waterfront facilities where residents can enjoy a variety of pleasures throughout the southern connecting waterway, a landscape-specialized pedestrian bridge, and a visual resting space such as Milky Way Square and Moonlight Square on both sides of the connecting waterway.

The following Phase 1-2 completed the main administrative procedures of the detailed design stage, such as the selection of the bridge landscape and construction method, and began full-scale design of the section from Lakes 6 and 8 to the north side connecting waterway to the north side waterway with the goal of placing an order for construction in the second half of the year.

The Phase 2 project was selected as a feasibility study project in September last year, signed an agreement with the Korea Research Institute for Local Administration and started a feasibility study. When the results of the investigation are released in July, it will request a local financial investment review. From next year, follow-up administrative procedures such as changing the development plan and reflecting the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' master plan for reclaiming public waters will be carried out, and the Phase 2 project will be completed by 2027.
When the Songdo waterfront project is completed, seawater will flow in and circulate for about 15 days to maintain the water quality of grades 2 or 3 or higher (same level as the offshore of Incheon). If the water level is maintained at an average sea level of 1m during normal times and heavy rain occurs, about 10 million tons of freshwater capacity can be secured up to the planned flood level of 3.5m to prevent flood damage.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to attract tourists and revitalize the local economy by attracting marina facilities and water leisure sports facilities and creating a marine eco-city where nature and people coexist, and raise the dignity and value of Incheon as a global city.
