Opening in the second half of this year, a healing gift with the scent of phytoncide for citizens
National and public natural recreation forests under construction by Incheon are expected to be available from the second half of this year at the earliest.
This is good news as the public demand for forest recreation facilities is increasing due to the prolonged COVID-19.

Incheon plans to complete the construction of the natural recreation forest and Hwagae Garden in Muuido Island and Ganghwa Gyodong-myeon in June and start operation in the second half of this year. The construction of the Deokjeokdo Island natural recreational forest project, which is being promoted together, is expected to be completed in December next year.
The Hwagae Local Garden and Deokjeokdo Island and Muuido Island Natural Recreation Forest are the representative forest recreation promotion projects of Incheon, and when the construction is completed, it is expected that it will provide a wide range of opportunities for citizens to engage in recreational activities.

The Muuido Island National Recreation Forest creation project started in 2016 with the Incheon Metropolitan City’s visit to the Korea Forest Service and continued recommendations for promoting the National Recreational Forest, and KRW 8.6 billion was invested in the project. On an area of 139 ha, there will be a visitor information center and a parking lot, as well as accommodations with 20 rooms.
The Hwagae Local Garden, which is being built in Gyodong-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, with an area of 11ha and a project cost of 9 billion won, is also scheduled to be completed in June 2022 and temporarily open in the second half of the year. Five themed gardens, including the Water Garden, History and Culture Garden, Memories Garden, Peace Garden, and Healing Garden, and various experiential activities will provide citizens with a unique rest.

Deokjeokdo Natural Recreation Forest, located in Deokjeok-myeon, Ongjin-gun, has an area of 12 hectares and a project cost of 6 billion won, and it is under construction with a forest recreation center, a house in the forest, a campsite in the forest, and various convenience facilities, and is scheduled to be completed in December 2023.
Deokjeokdo Island Natural Recreational Forest, which will be created as the second public recreation forest after Seokmodo Recreational Forest, is expected to become a recreational spot as it offers the benefits of forest recreation as well as the beautiful sea view of Deokjeokdo Island.
Incheon plans to increase the satisfaction of citizens using recreational facilities by promoting the development of various recreational activity programs using the surrounding landscape of each recreation forest, such as turnip planting experience, turnip kimchi making experience, and tidal flat enjoyment experience.
