- Leading the way to safe and clean energy production as well as attracting investment and creating jobs in the wind power industry-

On Mar. 6, Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok met with Lars Aagaard, the Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, and Per Mejnert Kristensen, the Ørsted President of Asia Pacific, to discuss cooperation in the offshore wind power industry.

This partnership comes following Mayor Yoo's trip to Copenhagen, Denmark last February, when the Incheon-Ørsted Offshore Wind Power & Local Industry Development Cooperation MoU was concluded.

This day, the mayor requested cooperation while in discussion with Minister Aagaard and President Kristensen for taking steps to transform Incheon into a leading area for offshore wind power. Incheon is set to construct an offshore wind farm to generate 6.2 GW of energy, according to the city's initiative toward carbon neutrality and local economic development by 2030. The government-led project is expected to cost a total of KRW 31 trillion in cooperation with private companies such as Ørsted.

Both sides established joint goals for the successful realization of the Incheon offshore wind power project and reaffirmed their efforts for the development of the industry for Ørsted’s coexistence with the citizens of Ongjin-gun.

Mayor Yoo said, “Incheon is located in the capital area that consumes 40% of all power in the country, making it the optimal location for offshore wind power. Through the active establishment of the offshore wind farm, we will realize carbon neutrality in Incheon and contribute to local economy development.”

Ørsted President of Asia Pacific Per Mejnert Kristensen said, “After concluding the MoU, I’m happy that we were able to immediately meet with Incheon city officials. The Incheon offshore wind power project will do everything it can to support the transformation of the area into a ‘green hub.’”

Minister Lars Aagaard, demonstrating interest in Incheon’s carbon neutrality and the offshore wind project, said, “Denmark is leading the development of the energy industry along with Ørsted for the entire world. Through this meeting with Incheon officials, we will actively share Denmark’s expertise and model cases related to offshore wind and form a solid partnership.”
