- Performances to celebrate Incheon Culture & Arts Center’s concerto hall reopening -

Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok) announced that the Incheon Culture & Arts Center will host three free performances in April and May to celebrate the reopening of its concerto hall.

The concerto hall has reopened following partial improvements to the lobby and audience seats. The location of the spotlight booth has been adjusted to ensure optimal lighting angles. Seats have been equipped with color-changing LED fixtures to enhance production efficiency and diversity.

The ceiling and back wall of the theater have been redesigned with a new structure. In the lobby, the existing marble has been replaced with a stucco finish to improve aesthetics and create a modern art space. New ticketing booths and seating charts have been installed for the convenience of performance organizers and audience members.

Exploring New Possibilities & Bridging Gaps Across Disabilities and Generations

The performances were organized to showcase the newly renovated space to the public ahead of its full-scale operation and to check the overall operation of the venue, including its acoustics and other systems. Performances include the Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra’s “For Culture Leaders” on Apr. 18, Incheon City Disabled Arts Group’s “Together, Spring” on May 16, and Incheon Metropolitan City Theater Company’s “Lee Su-il and Shim Sun-ae” on May 24.

The Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra Invites Musicophile ‘Culture Leaders’

The first performance will be held on Apr. 18 by the Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra. Titled “For Culture Leaders,” the performance aims to explore the new possibilities of small music venues with music lovers. It will feature a variety of programs, including classical music, opera, folk music, and film music, to provide a rich musical experience for the audience.

Tenor Kim Ji-min, who is actively performing while training postgraduates, and vibraphone player Yun Hyeon-sang, who gained recognition through Super Band 2, will perform as collaborators. Pianist Ahn In-mo will serve as a commentator to offer a deeper experience.

Incheon City Disabled Arts Group Celebrates Inclusive Spring Beyond the Boundaries of Disability

To celebrate the new beginning of the concerto hall, there will be a special performance for people with and without disabilities to come together without boundaries. On May 16, the Incheon City Disabled Arts Group's “Together, Spring” will take place to ‘spring’ up and celebrate the ‘spring’ season through cultural arts. Led by conductor Jeong Yeong-ju, tenor Do Yun-jong and soprano Kim Seung-ri will appear on stage together. The concert will feature authentic classical music, songs, musical numbers, and film scores.

Incheon Metropolitan City Theater Company’s Timeless Retro Melodrama for All Generations

The performance series will conclude with the Incheon City Theater Company’s musical melodrama “Lee Su-il and Shim Sun-ae,” a production that resonates with audiences both young and old. Set during the Japanese occupation, the story follows a love triangle between Kim Jung-bae, the son of the wealthiest man in Jangan, Lee Su-il, a poor high school student, and Shim Sun-ae. The nostalgic narrative will strike a chord with middle-aged and older generations, while also appealing to Millennial and Gen Z audience. This timeless classic, known as a tearjerker, will fill the 480-seat small theater with overwhelming emotion. The performance will take place on May 24—a perfect day for the whole family to enjoy an outing together.

Incheon Culture & Arts Center Director Ko Eun-hwa stated, “We want to add to the symbolic meaning of the reopening of the concerto hall by presenting a pilot performance that encompasses the diversity and inclusiveness of cultural arts.” She added, “We will present a warm artistic experience to the audiences who visit the concerto hall after a long time.”

While all seats are free of charge, pre-booking is required via the Incheon Culture & Arts Center website.
